The meme uses an image of Azumanga Daioh anime characters Osaka and Kagura standing in a classroom, Osaka photoshopped to wear the clothing item described in the caption and Kagura laughing at her. The original version of the meme was uploaded to iFunny in October 2021 and gained viral spread as an exploitable over the following years.

Origin

On September 30th, 2002, Azumanga Daioh episode 26 aired.^[1] In the episode, Osaka sneezes due to hay fever several times. The calm, quiet way she sneezes makes Kagura laugh (shown below).

On October 31st, 2021, iFunny^[2] user free_twovie posted a meme with a watermark from a seemingly now-deleted account, @lit.azumanga.memes, using an image of Kagura laughing at Osaka, who has been photoshopped to wear a Vlone shirt, under the caption, "When ya plug pull up wearin dat VLONE," garnering over 570 smiles in three years (shown below).

Spread

The meme gained viral spread over the following months, inspiring further photoshops. On February 17th, 2023, X^[3] user @ur0tsuk1 posted a version of the meme about Rick Owens, garnering around 400 likes in a year. On May 13th, X^[4] user @imfrostd posted a version of the meme that garnered over 2,700 likes in roughly the same span of time (shown below). It was reposted by Instagram^[5] user meme_saint_laurent on May 16th, garnering over 22,000 likes in a similar timeframe.

On November 14th, 2023, Instagram^[6] user owen_kung posted a new version of the meme that garnered over 16,700 likes in five months (shown below, left). On March 20th, 2024, Instagram^[7] user halfvampirehalfsuccubus posted a version of the meme that garnered over 8,900 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
