About
Where the Fuck My Child Support? refers to a series of memes in which a woman demands various characters to pay her child support, with the characters proceeding to flee or disappear in a humorous manner. Originating from a Where Is Waldo? meme, the format gained notable popularity in September 2020.
Origin
The exact origin of the meme is unknown. On March 30th, 2010, entertainment website JoyReactor[1] made the earliest found repost of the original meme (shown below). In the meme, a woman demands the protagonist of Where Is Waldo? (Where Is Wally?) children book series Waldo to pay her child support. The last panel shows the signature search puzzle, with Waldo being hidden in large crowd of people, as if avoiding his obligations to the woman.
Spread
While the image did not see use as a meme format prior to 2018, it received active spread online through multiple reposts. For example, on September 8th, 2012, Funnyjunk[2] user lildredre reposted the image, gaining over 1000 thumbs up in eight years. On January 2nd, 2016, Redditor[3] frankiefantastic reposted the image to /r/4PanelCringe subreddit, where it gained over 420 upvotes in six months.
On April 1st, 2018, Facebook[4] page Ghetto ASS Spongebob MEMES posted the earliest known derivative meme based on the format, with an image of Tired Spongebob replacing Waldo. The post received over 1,100 reactions and 280 shares in two years (shown below).
Apart from reposts, the format did not see further spread until on April 14th, 2019, Redditor[14] MetalCloud posted a Team Fortress 2 version of the meme which received over 8,200 upvotes in six months (shown below, left). On August 26th, 2019, Redditor[5] AnonymousAndWhite posted a Luigi version of the meme that gained over 12,000 upvotes in six months (shown below, right). The meme was widely circulated online in the following weeks with reposts on Facebook[6] and iFunny.[7]
The format saw an increase in popularity through 2020, with a Bloon version of the meme (shown below, left) going viral in April[8][9] and more variations appearing in the following months.[10] On September 11th, 2020, Twitter account @nocontextauss (No Context Among Us) reposted an Among Us version of the meme created by Twitter[11] user @DawnKnight5_ (shown below, right), gaining over 760 retweets and 10,100 likes.
