While the exact origins of the image of a red button with the words "White Woman Extinction Button" on it are presently unknown, Twitter users made references to the meme as early as October 2019.^[1][2]

The earliest traceable upload of the meme is a December 7th, 2019 Instagram^[3] post with 40 likes by @that1spook (seen below, left). A December 15th, 2020 post by now-deleted Twitter^[4] user @willemdafoestan showed Twitter user @pawgbertREAL using the meme as well (seen below, right).

On December 8th, 2019, Instagram^[10] page @downzyndrome posted the earliest known variation of the meme, making the button read "JoJo fans extermination button." The post gathered over 1,000 likes in three years (seen below).

Various Twitter users made references to the white woman extinction button meme in late 2019 and early 2020, however, notable popular examples of the meme in action were likely removed from the site on account of hate speech.^[5][6][7]

On January 31st, 2020, a variation of the meme featuring a Pepe character was posted to Tumblr^[8] by @aletheius, gathering over 400 notes in three years (seen below, left). On February 6th, 2020, a 4chan^[9] user posted a variation of the meme to /r/pol (seen below, right).
