Who Is She? is an image macro series which pairs the sarcastic question "Who is she?" with various humorous photographs, often featuring animals and inanimate objects, to indicate an interest in the subject of the photo. The meme is not to be confused with the viral Vine video "Who Is She?".

Origin

The exact origin of the meme is currently unknown. On August 31st, 2014, Tumblr user claphnelauren reblogged a perfectly timed photo of a toad placed in front of a woman, creating an optical illusion merging the two faces (shown below).

On December 31st, 2014, Tumblr user divinedorothy posted a photograph of a pidgeon standing on a red carpet with the caption "who is she" (shown below). Within three years, the post gained over 469,000 notes.

On February 7th, 2015, Tumblr user hwighting[4] reblogged two photographs of a dog running through the water with the caption "whos is she? what agency is she with?" (shown below, left). On March 29th, Tumblr user surprisebitch[1] reblogged a picture of a bulbous strawberry with the caption "who is she" (shown below, right).

On May 20th, 2015, The Daily Dot[2] published an article about the meme titled "The internet is dying to know: 'Who is she'." On September 10th, 2017, Redditor Matteriess uploaded a pixelated image of a crowd at a concert with the caption "who is she" to /r/DeepFriedMemes,[3] where it gathered upwards of 7,600 points (91% upvoted) and 80 comments within five days (shown below).
