About
World's Most Famous Spoon is a TikTok page started in November of 2020 by TikToker Ryan Campbell[1] made with the intention to race TikToker Charli D'Amelio to 100 million followers. Videos on the account feature a spoon suspended from a string performing various TikTok trends and using the platform as intended, as if the spoon is running the account. The page is attempting a similar feat to 2019's World Record Egg, which was a campaign to get an image of an egg to be the most-liked post on Instagram.
Origin
On November 11th, 2020, the TikTok account worldsmostfamousspoon uploaded their first video[2] (shown below). The video begins with multiple screenshots of Charli D'Amelio's TikTok page and a series of on-screen captions describing how she's nearing 100 million followers. The captions then describe how TikTokers are wondering who will reach 100 million first, mentioning other big TikTokers like Bella Poarch and Alex French as close contenders. The video ends with a shot of a spoon waving back and forth, suggesting it might reach 100 million before Charli. The video gained over 5.4 million views and 1.3 million likes in 5 days.

Spread
In 5 days, worldsmostfamousspoon achieved over 571,000 followers. Over the next few days the account continued to upload videos mentioning Charli and encouraging viewers to follow. On November 12th, 2020, worldsmostfamousspoon uploaded a video responding to a comment asking the spoon to show itself dancing better than Charli, garnering over 1.1 million views in 4 days[3] (shown below, left). On November 13th, the account-runner posted a video describing how they started the page as a joke to tease Charli fans, never expecting it to gain so many followers so fast, but they would now legitimately continue to try and hit 100 million first[4] (shown below, right).

On November 13th, StayHipp[5] published an entry detailing the account. Worldsmostfamousspoon inspired a number of copycat and parody accounts attempting to find similar success and poke fun at the trend. For example, on November 15th the TikTok account mostfamousnissanmurano[6] uploaded their first video, which is a series of on-screen captions saying, "We have all heard of world's most famous spoon. Say hello to worlds most famous 2007 Nissan Murano" (shown below). None of these accounts have been as successful as worldsmostfamousspoon.
