Yellow Shirt Math Lyrics Kid refers to a clip of Nigerian actor Osita Iheme, best known for his role as "Paw-Paw" in the Aki and Paw-Paw series of Nigerian comedy films, going through a book and appearing to do math in his head. After the clip was posted to Twitter in June of 2019, it spread as a reaction clip akin to Math Lady and was used with people quoting lyrics of hip-hop songs that deal with numbers and equations.

Origin

The actor in the clip is Osita Iheme, playing Paw-Paw in one of the Nigerian Aki and Paw-Paw comedies of the mid-2000s. Iheme is an adult actor with dwarfism.[1] On June 1st, 2019, Twitter user @emirlhakimi[2] posted a clip of Iheme attempting to work out a math problem with the caption related to taking a math exam, gaining over 33,000 retweets and 20,000 likes (shown below).


Spread

On June 24th, the clip began seeing use as a reaction clip to people attempting to follow along with math-related lyrics in hip hop songs. That day, Twitter user @eleven8 posted the clip with lyrics from Nas' "One Mic," gaining over 1,600 retweets and 3,600 likes (shown below, top). Twitter user @TheCreativeJC posted Kendrick Lamar lyrics with the clip, gaining over 31,000 retweets and 90,0000 likes (shown below, bottom).


The popularity of the memes led to a page on Twitter Moments.[3] Other popular examples posted over the following two days include a tweet by @MatthewACherry that gained over 25,000 retweets and 83,000 likes (shown below, top) and a tweet by @iseeyouupthere that gained over 460 retweets and 1,600 likes (shown below, bottom).
