Cheesy Michael or Cheesy Michael Open Up the Door is a song derived from a series of prank videos by TikToker @nnichetony in which he places an item on his roommate Michael's door handle so that when Michael, referred to as Cheesy Michael, opens the door, the item will fall to the ground and smash. In the videos, Tony sometimes sings a song with the lyrics, "Cheesy Michael, open up the door."

The TikToker started posting videos pranking Cheesy Michael, who is never actually seen opening the door and who some presume does not exist, as early as November 2025. The Cheesy Michael song experienced a surge in virality in late May and early June 2026, inspiring covers, remixes and memes. The song is sung to the tune of "Sinking Town" by Yoeko Kurahashi.

Origin

On November 24th, 2025, TikToker^[1] @nnichetony posted a video where he places a package of cookies on a door handle, supposedly the door to his roommate Cheesy Michael's room, so that when Michael opens the door, the cookies fall. He places the cookies on the handle and then repeatedly says, "Cheesy Michael," but Cheesy Michael never leaves his room and the door handle never turns. The video gained over 318,000 views in seven months.

Tony continued to post videos pranking Cheesy Michael over the following months, with Cheesy Michael never actually opening his door.

For example, on April 19th, 2026, he posted a version of the prank on TikTok^[2] in which he put toilet paper on the door, gaining over 629,000 views in two months.

On May 25th, the TikToker^[3] posted a version of the prank where he puts an egg on the door, and then a voice starts singing in the background, "Cheesy Michael, open up the door," garnering over 2.7 million views in just over a week. The song is sung to the tune of "Sinking Town" by Yoeko Kurahashi.

In early June 2026, the Cheesy Michael song inspired a trend on TikTok in which users sing covers of and remix the song.

For example, on June 2nd, 2026, TikToker^[4] @rattlegoat posted a video where he places an apple on a door handle and then sings the song, garnering over 2.2 million views in three days.

That day, TikToker^[5] @frederica_bimmel_ posted a video where two people sing a cover of the song, garnering over 1.1 million views in three days.

On June 3rd, 2026, TikToker^[6] @wavybug posted a video where she sings a cover of the Cheesy Michael song, garnering over 556,000 views in two days.
