Yo Holy Shit He Dead refers to a viral Vine where a man gives excited commentary to a scene from The Magic School Bus where Arnold removes his helmet in space and his head freezes into a solid block of ice, shouting "yo holy shit he dead!" and calling Ms. Frizzle a bad teacher for allowing it to happen. The video was first posted in 2015 and an extended version was posted to YouTube later. Its audio became a widespread exploitable over the following years as people edited it over a variety of clips to change the context.

Origin

On July 29th, 2015, Viner^[1] sonnylaubhan posted a video recording a TV showing a scene from The Magic School Bus where Arnold takes his helmet off while in space to spite his cousin. Space immediately freezes his head into a block of ice and they rush him into the ship. In the Vine a man reacts to the scene, shouting, "yo holy shit he dead" when Arnold's head freezes. The video gained over 1.3 million loops by the time Vine shut down in 2017. The video was reuploaded to YouTube in January 2016, gaining over 750,000 views in five years (shown below).

An extended version of the clip also exists, although it's unclear when and where it was first uploaded and has been used in edits as early as 2016. On January 17th, 2018, YouTuber Stevie posted the extended version of the video with additional commentary at the start and end. The video begins with the man yelling, "yo don't do it, don't do it" at the TV before Arnold takes off the helmet, then yelling "yo holy shit he dead" and continuing, "oh he dead for sure. Ms. Frizz you are a bad teacher. How are you gonna afford to go on all these school trips after the lawsuit?" (shown below). The video gained over 169,000 views in three years. It is unclear if this is the first time the extended version was uploaded online.

Spread

Over the course of 2016 and 2017, the video's audio became a popular exploitable as people edited it over new clips to change the context as if the man yelling at the TV is yelling over someone or something else dying. For example, on September 28th, 2016, YouTuber^[2] ImHavelTheRock posted a video using the audio over footage of a character in Call Of Duty 3 dying, gaining over 490,000 views in five years (shown below).

On November 16th, YouTuber^[3] kmlkmljkl posted a version of the meme where Patrick Star reads a poem and it's finished by the line "yo holy shit he dead," gaining over 170,000 views in five years (shown below, left). On December 19th, YouTuber^[4] Faizal kuntz posted a clip from the anime Noragami with the audio added, gaining over 62,000 views in a similar span of time (shown below, right).

On May 31st, 2017, YouTuber^[5] Dự Đỗ Quang posted an edit using footage of a teacher stabbing himself in the throat from the anime Another, gaining over 87,000 views in four years (shown below).
