"You Have Done That Yourself", often preceeded by "You Turned Her Against Me", is a quote from the 2003 film Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. In memes, it is frequently used to call out a person or group for being at fault for being alienated yet blaming someone else.

Origin

In the film, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is confronted by his wife Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman). Then, his former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) shows up, whereupon Anakin accuses Padmé of bringing Obi-Wan there to kill him and soon after accuses Obi-Wan of turning his wife against him. To the latter, Obi-Wan counters that Anakin's own actions are why Padmé disapproves of him.

The scene has been posted online several times. The below example was uploaded on November 19th, 2016, gaining 1,200,000 views in five years.^[1]

The earliest known instance of the meme is through a reference to the meme Countess Boochie Flagrante, first posted to Tumblr from an unknown source and uploaded to KnowYourMeme on January 10th, 2016 (below, left). The first known instance of the meme as commonly used was posted to the subreddt /r/Shadowverse on November 19th, 2016, gaining 125 points in six months (below, right).^[2]

Spread

The meme began growing more popular in 2018, when the quote began appearing on r/PrequelMemes. On January 21st, 2018, user ninjajamies93 posted a Baton Roue meme based on the scene, gaining over 730 points^[3] (shown below, left). On April 19th, user Fausto_423^[4] posted a Who Killed Hanibal variation that gained over 130 points (shown below, right).
