"You, Sir, are and Idiot" is a grammatically incorrect variant of the insult "You, sir, are an idiot." The quote was subsequently popularized on 4chan, with the conjunction "and" replacing the indefinite article "an" for comedic effect. The phrase now implies "I believe that I know more than you, despite my own ineptitude."

Origin

In Episode 9 Season 15 of the animated television show The Simpsons, originally aired on February 22nd, 1998, the character Krusty the Clown insults his sidekick Sideshow Mel by saying "You, sir, are an idiot" (shown below).

The “You, sir, are and idiot” variation of the expression is rumored to have originated on 4chan as a result of a typo. The earliest known mention of the phrase online was posted by Urban Dictionary^[1] user LOLWUTANON by September 20th, 2008, who described the phrase as an “unfunny spam copypasta posted on /b/.”

On October 30th, 2008, an anonymous 4chan^[2] user replied to a creepypasta post on the /b/ (random) board with the phrase "You, sir, are and idiot." On November 29th, 2009, it was mentioned by another 4chan^[3] user as an insult towards the original poster who confessed to stealing Comcast television remotes. On February 2nd, 2010, Adult Swim Forums^[6]member TheRealAlBundy started a thread titled “you sir are and idiot” in the Incoherent Babbling subforum. On March 8th, 4chan user QosBro insulted another user with the phrase in a thread discussing Nvidia graphics cards on the /g/ (technology) board.^[4] On June 10th, 2011, League of Legends Forums^[5] member Ravaged Soul submitted a thread titled "You sir are and idiot." On May 14th, 2013, the insult was added to the Simpsons Wiki^[7] page for "Memes and idioms."
