About
You Will Be Popular is a catchphrase and refrain sung by actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth during her performance of Wicked in 2003. The line taken from the Broadway play emerged on TikTok in the early 2020s as a viral audio trend with people using it as a lip dub meme template and the resulting characters being "popular" for varying reasons.
Origin
On September 21st, 2021, the official Kristin Chenoweth TikTok account[1] uploaded a sketch in which she went up to re-audition for her old role of Glinda the Good in the Broadway play Wicked, with the audio from her original 2003 recording being used in the background. This, in turn, led to the audio being readily available for people to use, as well as giving Chenoweth over 461,000 likes in 16 months on the post itself (shown below).

After experiencing mild virality in 2021 throughout early 2022, Chenoweth[2] reignited interest in the audio with a new TikTok post on July 7th, 2022, in a video in which she finally wears the Glinda the Good outfit, getting over 600,000 likes in seven months (shown below).

This second breath of life for the audio subsequently sparked a resurgence of use on the platform, with the soundbite slowly picking up steam until December 2022 when it was fully adopted site-wide and became a mainstream viral audio format. TikToker MrsMosquito[3] was the first to go over 1 million likes using the audio with a TikTok uploaded on December 12th, 2022, that gained over 3 million likes in four weeks (shown below).
