"You're a Genius, You Moron" is a memorable quote uttered by the character Trevor Philips from the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V). Online, screenshots of Trevor saying the line has been used as a reaction image macro in jokes about intelligence.

Origin

On September 13th, 2013, the video game Grand Theft Auto V was released in the United States.^[1] In the game, the character Trevor Philip and Wade Herbert have the following exchange:

Wade Herbert : I looked through the phone directory, and I did find a Michael De Santa. About the right age, married with two kids.
Trevor Philips : What's his wife's name?
Wade Herbert : Amanda.
Trevor Philips : Amanda? You're a genius, you moron. Come on, come here.

On November 26th, 2014, YouTuber Willzyyy published a playthrough of the GTA V mission "Friends Reunited." The post received more than 455,000 views in less than six years (shown below, left).

A little over five years later, Redditor ^[2] mijuzz7 shared a screenshot from the scene with the caption, "When your friend gets just one question right in the entire test but the one he got right was the hardest question." The post received more than 46,000 points (98% upvoted) and 100 comments in less than one week (shown below, right).

On January 9th, 2020, Redditor^[3] aprilfools911 posted a variation of the meme, reacting to an exam score that reads, "Your score 85% You FAILEDPASSED the Exam Required Score 85%." The post received more than 45,000 points (97% upvoted) and 125 comments in less than one week (shown below, left).
