Rape List refers to a number of memes that entertain the premise of adding someone to a "rape list" and then notifying that person that they have been added, most commonly to shock rather than threaten them. The meme has been used on TikTok in the form of Yup, You're Going on the Rape List and on X / Twitter and imageboards in the form of a Rape List: You exploitable meme.

Origin

While the meme did not form a distinctive trend until 2023, various memes based on the premise of a "rape list" were circulated online earlier. For example, on January 18th, 2010, Know Your Meme^[1] user Aric Craplin archived a Combo Dog meme captioned, "Live's a bitch, put her on your rape list" (shown below, left; another early post^[2] shown below, right).

On March 1st, 2020, X user @silentoad posted a screenshot of an X / Twitter notification notifying them that user IG: Codeneist added them to a list titled "niggas I'm gonna rape." While the original post has since been removed, a screenshot of it has been widely circulated^[3]^[4] online (repost shown below).

Starting in late 2022, the phrase "you're going on the rape list" and its variations achieved prominence on TikTok, where it was used as a comment meant to induce shock. On December 22nd, 2022, TikTok^[5] user @thisisntquackity.hq posted the earliest discovered video that replied to such a comment left by user @balldestruction. The video (shown below, left) garnered over 3,600 likes in two years.

On August 2nd, 2023, TikTok^[6] user @kamozzy_ posted a reaction video to a similar "rape list" comment left by user @himothy, garnering over 62,200 likes in roughly a year (shown below, right).

On July 4th, 2023, X^[7] user @michael120_ posted a version of the Notejak meme in which the note extended by the character read "Rape list: you" (shown below; authorship unconfirmed). The post received over 30 reposts and 1,200 likes in one year.

The image has been used as a reaction and inspired further edits. For example, on May 4th, 2024, X^[8] user @Procrastinqtes posted a Man or Bear meme based on the image (shown below, left). On June 24th, X^[9] user @Da_Desu_Da edited the note onto the shape from The Morning Visitor meme, with the image (shown below, right) gaining over 400 reposts and 6,700 likes in two weeks, as well as being used as a reaction in the following weeks.
