"You're The, The, The Grinch" is a memorable quote uttered by the characters The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 Christmas fantasy film How The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. Online, people use a sound clip from the scene to mock how others react to personal information or physical traits.

Origin

On November 17th, 2000, Universal Pictures released the film How The Grinch Stole Christmas (clip below). In the film, the character Cindy Lou Who catches the Grinch (portrayed by Taylor Momsen and Jim Carrey) sneaking into her home. She screams and says, "You're the, the, the--" The Grinch interrupts her, mocking her reaction. He says, "the, the, the Grinch!"

On November 22nd, 2018, TikToker @tiktokssoundguy posted the clip to video. The post received more than 1,000 reactions in less than three years (shown below).

On November 21st, 2020, TikToker @lorengray published a video using the sound with the caption "When u finally stand up and he realizes u arent 5'1"." The post received more than 11 million views, 2.3 million reactions and 21,000 comments in less than one month (shown below, left).

The popularity of the meme-inspired others to use the sound and post takes on the joke format. For example, on November 22nd, TikToker lexani.unique posted a variation that received more than 7.2 million views, 1.6 million reactions and 9,600 comments in less than one month (shown below, right).

On December 3rd, StayHipp[1] published a report on the meme.
