You've Scrolled So Far refers to a series of memes including image macros with captions joking about how you've scrolled so far down a comment thread or social media feed that you've found something uncommon, extinct, mythical or rare. The memes first started appearing on Reddit in 2019 and spread over the following years.
Origin
The earliest known examples of a meme about scrolling so far you've found something was posted to /r/PewdiepieSubmissions[1] on July 7th, 2019 by nnneutron, gaining roughly 10 upvotes in four years and is about finding Minecraft emeralds. A similar meme was posted to iFunny[2] that day about Minecraft diamonds, garnering over 50 smiles in the same span of time (shown below). The memes continued to grow on the site over the following months, inspiring a Redditor to make a post to /4/PewdiepieSubmissions[3] that August about the meme being annoying, garnering over 1,800 upvotes in four years.
Spread
A version of the meme was posted to /r/MinecraftMemes[4] on November 3rd, garnering over 540 upvotes in four years. On November 6th, Facebook[5] user わかりません / wakarimasen posted another version of the meme referencing Minecraft, garnering over 250 reactions and 25 shares in four years. On November 19th, a Redditor posted a version of the meme to /r/lotr[6] referencing the Balrog from Lord of the Rings, garnering over 2,000 upvotes in four years (shown below). On November 24th, Tumblr[7] user dankmemeuniversity posted a version of the meme about isopods, garnering over 43,000 notes in four years.
The format continued to spread over the following years with differing captions about scrolling far. On March 5th, 2022, Twitter[8] user @lumapdeeznuts posted a version about scrolling so far you find a lost Nintendo DS stylus (shown below, left). The meme was reposted to the 2000s Kids Only Facebook[9] page, garnering over 15,000 shares and 10,000 reactions in 10 months. On October 26th, a Redditor posted a version of the meme referencing Avatar: the Last Airbender to /r/memes,[10] garnering over 3,200 upvotes in three months (shown below, right). It was reposted by the 9GAG Facebook[11] page on November 12th, garnering over 8,900 shares and 46,000 reactions in two months.
