Zendaya Laugh is a slang term that refers to the act of laughing excessively at a romantic partner, even if the partner might not be doing or saying something particularly funny, proving one's affection toward the other. The term was coined after a 2019 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live in which Zendaya laughed throughout a story told by her co-star and partner Tom Holland. Since then, the term has been applied to clips of celebrities filmed or photographed laughing excessively at a romantic partner or shipping partner.

Origin

On May 10th, 2019, Zendaya and Tom Holland appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live. During the appearance, Holland told a story that had Zendaya laughing throughout, even though Holland had not hit the punch line of his story. That day, Twitter / X user @adlnsldfrs^[1] posted a compilation of Zendaya laughing at Holland, gaining over 230 likes in five years (shown below).

On September 10th, 2021, Twitter user @bylarisha^[2] joked, "watched jack harlow's chicken shop date episode and caught myself zendaya laughing at some of those jokes, down bad isn't even the word" (emphasis added). The tweet gained over 710 retweets and 5,600 likes in three years.

Spread

On September 12th, 2021, four definitions for "Zendaya Laugh" were added to Urban Dictionary.^[3] The top definition was submitted by user Mr. random user #24, gaining just seven likes in three years.

Over the following years, Zendaya Laugh was used primarily to comment on celebrities who appeared to be infatuated with another person, as evidenced by their excessive laughing. For example, on May 29th, 2023, Twitter user @baehisn^[4] posted a joke that actress Halle Bailey was "Zendaya Laughing" at Little Mermaid co-star Jonah Hauer-King, gaining over 90 retweets and 1,900 likes in one year.

On August 31st, 2024, Twitter user @sweetnthinqs^[5] tweeted that Callum Turner was "Zendaya Laughing" at Dua Lipa, signaling he was deeply in love with her. The post gained over 120 retweets and 2,100 likes in 10 days.
