Argument Over Boba Fett's Ship Name 'Slave 1' Sees Resurgence As 'Book of Boba Fett' Captions Label It 'Firespray'

The debate amongst Star Wars fans about Boba Fett's iconic ship name was reignited as the Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett featured the return of the gunship, which the captions now call "Firespray." The debate comes from Disney pushing for the ship's name to be changed from the previous name, "Slave 1," despite multiple instances of the name being used throughout the decades without issue.
Doesn't make sense considering that Slave 1 was the name of Boba Fett's specific ship while the ship type is a Firespray-31-class patrol and attack craft.
Again, no one ever had a problem with the ship being called Slave 1. It only became a problem when Disney made it one. https://t.co/uv8KKTrdqt— Oliver Jia (オリバー・ジア) (@OliverJia1014) January 14, 2022
I'm a black man in America and It's still the "Slave 1" to me…

For a company so adverse to the concept of slavery, Disney sure doesn't seem bothered by the Tusken Raiders enslaving Boba Fett himself in the very first episode. A ship called Slave 1 shouldn't be an issue for anyone, and those people shouldn't dictate George Lucas' creation.

Temuera Morrison says Boba Fett's ship will be referred to as 'Firespray gunship' in #TheBookOfBobaFett
In the Star Wars Databank, it's still listed as Slave 1

Though there were plenty of people still very passionate about the ship name change, a number of fans were also happy with the swap, either citing that they didn't like the original one to begin with or that the new one just sounds better. Indeed for newer fans getting into the series, it requires less lore-diving to understand the context behind the ship's name, which can be seen as either good or bad depending on the fan.
I always thought Slave 1 was a dumb name… pic.twitter.com/iXz4jYQHcZ

This’ll probably be an unpopular opinion, but Firespray is a way cooler name for Boba Fett’s ship than Slave 1 #TheBookOfBobaFett pic.twitter.com/v0xOk8tXjA

I personally think it’s kinda weird to be insisting that it’s still Slave 1, when even Tem said in a recent interview that they’re just calling it Firespray now. It’s an odd choice to loudly want it to still be Slave 1. But whatever, I guess.

At the same time, it seems that many fans are of the same opinion: It doesn't really matter what the ship is called, as long as it keeps making cool sounds and looking cool when it does things.

Regardless of where you land on this Slave 1 vs. Firespray debate, I think we can all agree that if you understand this sentence, you're a loser.
