Blizzard Announces It's Working On A New Survival Video Game, And Everyone Online Has One Joke
For all the controversies surrounding it, Blizzard is still a video game company, and today, it announced that it was working on an as-yet-untitled new survival game. The "Unannounced Survival Game" will be the company's first new IP since 2016's Overwatch.
The news dropped in a developer recruitment update on the Blizzard Entertainment website, which read:
Blizzard is embarking on our next quest. We are going on a journey to a whole new universe, home to a brand-new survival game for PC and console. A place full of heroes we have yet to meet, stories yet to be told, and adventures yet to be lived. A vast realm of possibility, waiting to be explored.
Perhaps the low-key announcement was due to the fact that Blizzard is still very much involved in multiple lawsuits regarding its toxic workplace environment that was particularly tough for women. As such, when the news that Blizzard was working on a survival video game hit Twitter and other social media platforms, most people had a joke ready to go.

Despite the yuks, there was some cause for optimism about the new game, despite the sparse details. Gaming journalist Jason Schreier noted that "even some of the most disgruntled Blizzard employees rave about this game/team." Mike Ybarra, the head of Blizzard, noted that he was "incredibly excited" about the game after playing it for several hours and working with the team behind it.

The quotes, along with Activision Blizzard getting purchased by Microsoft, may signal that Blizzard is on the upswing after the dust from their serious controversies settles.
