Diddy's Apology For Brutal Domestic Violence Video Turns Into Latest PR Nightmare For Hip Hop Mogul
Last weekend, a video of Sean "Diddy" Combs brutally attacking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in 2016 was released by CNN, stunning viewers and adding yet another damning piece of evidence into the ghastly list of crimes Diddy has allegedly committed.
Faced with the imminent collapse of his career, Diddy responded with an apology video. Such a move has proven popular for celebrities caught in a scandal, but it has almost never worked out for those who've tried it in the past.
It doesn't seem to be working out for Diddy.
In his apology video, Diddy called his behavior in the released clip "inexcusable." He also mentioned he went into therapy and rehab. Notably, he did not mention Cassie Ventura by name.
Compounding the issue for Diddy is that Ventura sued him in November for sexual assault and abuse. Part of the complaint described the events shown in the video released by CNN last Friday. Diddy settled the lawsuit the day after it was filed, but his legal team insisted that the settlement was "not an admission of guilt."
He also released a statement on his social media categorically denying all of the allegations, implying Ventura's lawsuit was motivated by "a quick payday." The post is still up on Diddy's Instagram with the comments turned off.
Following Diddy's apology video, Ventura's lawyer dismissed it, saying:
Combs’ most recent statement is more about himself than the many people he has hurt. When Cassie and multiple other women came forward, he denied everything and suggested that his victims were looking for a payday. That he was only compelled to ‘apologize’ once his repeated denials were proven false shows his pathetic desperation, and no one will be swayed by his disingenuous words.
Much of social media offered a similar take, as many found the apology video disingenuous and manipulative, particularly in light of Diddy's previous, categorical denial of the allegations Cassie Ventura brought against him, and Diddy's failure to apologize to Ventura in his video.
Charlamagne the God calls Diddy’s assault on Cassie a “different level of insanity,” and slams his apology:

This man is trash. This fake apology is trash. I feel bad for his daughters. @Diddy #NoDiddy #TheyNotLikeUs pic.twitter.com/ZxlHB6ZXgn

There’s absolutely nothing genuine about that apology video Diddy just dropped. Even after Diddy settled Cassie’s lawsuit he was still denying the allegations and insisting folk were lying on his character but now we’re supposed to buy that he’s been taking ownership of it pic.twitter.com/YxsXqCk17f

Diddy is still dealing with Lil Rod's lawsuit filed in February in which Rodney "Lil Rod" Jones filed a massive complaint alleging Diddy groomed him sexually and trafficked minors.
