Keep Telling Yourself That 'Megalovania' Playing At Pope Francis' Audience After MatPat Gifted Him 'Undertale' Is Just A Coincidence

At Pope Francis' general audience in the Vatican yesterday, one of the performances was accompanied by an instrumental version of "Megalovania" — yes, that "Megalovania" from the 2015 hit game Undertale and a massive meme of the recent years. This alone would have been enough to make Undertale fans go wild, but there was another detail that pushed this to the next level.

During yesterday's General Audience in the Vatican from the Pope, one of the concluding acts had acrobats and jugglers performing in front of the Pope and Vatican cardinals as sweet sounds of the instrumental version of "Megalovania" by Toby Fox poured into His Holiness' ears.

In case you never heard it before, "Megalovania" is the track that plays in the final boss fight of the hardest route in the 2015 indie hit Undertale. In 2018, it turned into a massive meme, with the melody becoming one of the best and ubiquitous shitposts of the year.

The story doesn't end here, however, as in 2016, two years before Undertale, Sans and "Megalovania" became a meme, YouTuber MatPat who hosts a popular game theory series, gifted the Pope a copy of the game. Later he posted a video about this.

This could be merely a coincidence, but what if the Pope actually did play Undertale … and maybe even tried the Genocide route required to unlock the final boss fight against Sans? God only knows.
