A bizarre micro-drama for the deeply online played out today concerning YouTuber MrBeast, the lost OceanGate submersible and a mysterious text message.

It all started when MrBeast tweeted that he was invited to go on a submarine to see the Titanic earlier this month, implying that it was the ill-fated Titan, but he declined. As purported evidence, he showed a text message of the invitation he received as proof of his story.

The tweet quickly drew raised eyebrows from many online, as several commenters noticed that the text message MrBeast supposedly received from an anonymous friend was in blue.

In iMessage, messages a texter sends are colored in blue. This would suggest that the "proof" of being invited on a submarine to see the Titanic was something MrBeast wrote and screenshotted himself, the implication being he allegedly made up the whole story.

While social media was making jokes about the impression MrBeast was making up his supposed close call with getting on the sub, the somewhat contentious YouTuber clarified that the friend who invited him sent him that screenshot, which he then reposted to Twitter.

mrbeast explanation

The explanation is plausible, though some still didn't believe him, pointing out that if one of his "friends" was on the ill-fated Titan, they would now be dead.

It's still unclear who sent MrBeast that text message. Though the wealthy YouTuber certainly has affluent friends, it's unknown if he had a connection to any of the five people aboard the Titan, or if the person who texted him was even referring to the Titan's voyage.
