A Shrek meme about Nintendo yelling at fans to stop asking about Switch 2.

Like an exasperated father responding to kids asking, "Are we there yet?," Nintendo has once again tweeted a disclaimer that its upcoming presentation will have no information regarding the long-rumored "Switch 2."

No switch 2 at museum presentation

Yesterday, Nintendo announced a 10-minute stream showcasing a Nintendo museum opening this fall in Kyoto, Japan. While that announcement seems to clearly outline what the presentation will showcase, Nintendo apparently felt it necessary to clarify that the museum tour would not include information about the Switch 2.

Nintendo has had to contend with fans trying to glean an imminent announcement of the company's successor to the Switch for over two years now, starting with the delay of Tears of the Kingdom in May 2022.

In September 2023, fans felt that an underwhelming Nintendo Direct was a surefire sign that the company was holding back more exciting titles to coincide with an imminent Switch 2 announcement.

In May, Nintendo finally confirmed that a Switch 2 was in the pipeline — by confirming that they weren't going to talk about it in an upcoming Nintendo Direct.

Yesterday's tweet was a similar disclaimer about not expecting news for the Switch successor. However, a "tour of a museum" is hardly a major Nintendo Direct, and fans found it amusing that Nintendo still felt it necessary to mitigate fan expectations and assure them they would not announce the Switch 2 in the presentation.

While it's no surprise Nintendo wouldn't chuck its biggest announcement nearly a decade in a minor 10-minute stream, the company's continued use of the "no Switch 2" disclaimer may have created a new problem: The moment Nintendo announces something without the "no Switch 2" disclaimer, fans are going to go bananas.
