Twitter Posters Declare Margot Robbie Is Mid Facing Immediate Backlash
In what some might consider a new low for Twitter discourse, the site is ablaze with controversy after a rogue poster called Barbie actress Margot Robbie "mid" yesterday.
As such, today's apparent "main character" of the platform (@bizlet7) appears to be a poster with a blue checkmark whose identification of the actress using the slang term "mid" perceivably lay somewhere between a joke and a sincere take based on retvrn-style views about gender and race in the eyes of those who reacted to it shortly after.
Immediately, a huge number of people on Twitter pushed back against the "Margot Robbie is mid" discourse, mocking the kind of man who would make that sort of judgment.
Many subsequently accused @bizlet7 and those who agreed with him of being not just sexist but perverse. A number of posters were simply flabbergasted that a take like this one would circulate so widely, and it brought to mind a similar discourse about Zendaya that had occurred a few days prior.
Men mocking and judging women for seemingly no reason other than to voice an opinion is, of course, not a new phenomenon, but a large number of posters expressed their anger and frustration to see such contentious comments broadcast far and wide.
As the viral debate continued to generate new discussions, some also debated over the concept of "mid" itself, wondering where it came from.
Barbie, set to release on July 21st, was originally spearheaded by Robbie who recruited the director and writer of the film and pushed to have it made by the studio.
This latest discourse proves the film's commentary on beauty standards is perhaps as timely as ever.
