I think Lancaster could be done well if they take it slow, like a full season. Make it clear that both characters are hurting from loss and seeking comfort in each other. Also, Jaune (and possibly Ruby) would have to express lots of initial guilt so it wouldn't come across as shallow.

I know not everything's not related to Undertale, but that face just reminds me of this so much…
