I appreciate Nintendo wanting to try and keep things fresh, and somethings it works out really well:
- Metroid Prime showed us that Metroid could function in a 1st person perspective
- FE: Awakening proved that FE could be expanded upon to appeal to more audiences
- Link Between Worlds (and more recently Breath of the Wild) showed us that you can shake up the traditional Zelda formula and have a good game
- even before that Wind Waker showed us that Zelda could be deep and dark in a colorful setting
- literally EVERY Kirby game but I was to point out Canvas Curse especially
However, it's not always going to be successful and Nintendo needs to learn that with Color Splash/Federation Force
- Sticker Star, despite decent sales, did poorly critically and that shows with Color Splash's reception. I bought Sticker Star because I foolishly thought it was going to be a portable TTYD. I am not going to be fooled again by Color Splash.
- Other M tried to shake things up too and failed, leaving fans clamoring for something "safe" and not trusting of more different changes. Federation Force does not ease their anxiety

I know a lot of Nintendo fanboys are going to joke "lol, i luv the salt" or "cri mor" and yes, I can understand why some may not be so willing to side with the critics. However, also consider that F-Zero and Star Fox are pretty much done now (Zero's sales are not looking good) and many people worry that their favorite franchises are going to share the same fate.
