I think that the reason why the miscarriage is seen as funny is because of the fact that this comic's GOAL is to be funny. So no matter how it tried to handle this subject, even with an absurd level of tact, a miscarriage will never BE inherently funny. So combine this ridiculously dark plot element with CAD's terrible art style and this pretentious 4-shot silent comic panel structure and you have created the ONLY way to make a miscarriage funny, by mitigating the drama of this scene through context. Couple these facts with the composition of the individual panels and the scene is hilarious. The guy has the same idiotic expression and the same stupid design as usual. It's like if happy tree friends decided to make an episode about debilitating bone cancer, it's just tone deaf.
