It's been like this since SOPA. Even though that one was shot down, lawmakers have been damn determined to fuck up the internet one way or another since then, and they have succeeded to some extent.
Honestly, the fact that these laws are rejected by the public yet keep coming are demonstrative of something we already suspected: Lawmakers are NOT working for the will of the people, but their own interests instead.
