It's a system that makes sense in Japan and only in Japan, where everyone's crowded together and outdoor social interaction is valued to a very heavy degree among children, moreso than in the west.

In a place like America, it comes off as nothing more than a cash grab; frankly it would've been better if the localizations combined each pair of games into a single unit.
