This. This is the crux of the issue. Mario has evolved, Zelda has evolved. Pokemon, has not.

Pokemon is not evolving. It is stagnating, it may even be decaying. There becomes a point when things need to change. Remember New Super Mario Bros? It was big breath of fresh air that slowly became more and more tedious with each entry. Same with the entirety of Zelda. Starting with OoT the franchise slowly became more and more stagnant and formulaic with each entry until we got Skyward Sword and it was kind of a mess. Then they shook things up, softly at first with 3D Land/World and A Link Between Worlds, and then greatly with Odyssey and BoTW to revitalize them.

But pokemon… Pokemon has always been pokemon. At its core nothing has changed, they've just balanced and tweaked it. That's not entirely bad, DQ for example has changed very little over the years but it's still good. But it HAS at least changed. Pokemon hasn't. The story, the characters, everything, it's still the same. There's nothing different between Kanto and Galar outside of your pokemon selection, that's basically it. Just, go watch Arin's Megaman vs X Sequelitis that's basically the whole problem here, pokemon needs it's own "X" its own evolution.
