Shadow of the Void
Shadow of the Void

I see he's hugging an idealized version of 1950s America. And a lot of American conservatives, even ones that weren't even alive at the time, seem wistful about the America of the 1950s. But in my dealings with them, it's clear they're not thinking about the economy of the 1950s, when income inequality was lower and the wealthy paid more taxes and household incomes were on the rise and supply-side economics hadn't been invented yet. No, they're thinking of the society of the 1950s, when blacks had hardly any rights in much of the country, where gays were forced to remain in the closet, and where the career choices of women were housewife, secretary, or school teacher. They've lost front after front in the culture war and they're bitter about it. These are the same people that just 17 years ago went apoplectic because the Supreme Court ruled that people couldn't be arrested and imprisoned for being gay. They may claim to be thinking of Leave it to Beaver and Father Knows Best, but they're really thinking about Jim Crow and Dominionism.
