COVID-19 Pandemic - NPC double think

Because covid is much more contagious and the flu shows symptoms sooner?

I'd imagine that'd be the reasoning.

Flu is much lower than normal because a lot of people wear masks and distance themselves. COVID is much higher than it could be because, despite the above, not nearly everyone wears masks or distances themselves. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
