Ok, so the reason why Death is on the binge is because he is trying to forget the guilt of deliberately not saving his own daughter and son-in-law from dying in a horrific coach crash which he knew was going to happen and he could have easily saved them; but didn't because it was not the right thing to do, for to change the fate of one person is to change the world.

But because he remembers everything, literally everything that ever has and ever will happen, with perfect clarity, he can, and never will, get over the guilt he feels for his actions. Never.
