The recent In the Heights "controversy" shows that it's even worse: you can be more than an ally, you can be literally one of the best things for minority theater and stage actors in decades, and yet it still won't be enough. You will fail some arbitrary purity test that didn't exist five minutes ago, and any groveling at the feet of your attackers will just be seen as a sign of weakness and vindication.
