She learns that it didn't resolve her insecurity and that she can and would be respected as herself by people who matter. The reason why morons get bent over her is that she's a written example of someone developing gender dysphoria and having it healthily resolved: realizing she doesn't want to be a boy and she's comfortable being herself.
