The post read, "TIL that one proposal to get rid of Castro was to spread rumours that he was the Antichrist, then fake the second coming; a US submarine would project an image of Jesus on some clouds near Havana while firing star-shells. A loudspeaker would be the voice of Jesus, urging them to renounce communism."

The 'Project Blue Beam' conspiracy theory saw a resurgence in 2024 in conservative internet circles, as seen in a X post and corresponding Rumble video posted by Matt Wallace in April 2024.
Project Blue Beam may have been inspired by a plot to remove Fidel Castro reportedly proposed by a World War Two General. The plot involved coercing Cuba's Catholic citizens into believing that Castro was the Antichrist, and then projecting a vision of Jesus asking the masses to reject communism.
