WHAT GENWUNNERS SEE WHAT GENWUNNERS REALLY SEE
IT'S ALL NOTHING BUT NOSTALGIA Why newer fans don't give a s--- about Gen I SPRITES ARTWORK DESIGNS Gen 1 Pokémon had atrocious styles, with countless sprites being full of hideous, bordeline creepy pieces of crap While the old artwork isn't that bad compared to the abominaions that were the sprites, t is still blown away by the new artwork as wel. Charmeleon, Squirte, and Pikachu are he examples that lampshade this The designs of the older Pokémon are obsolete if you compare them to the newer ones. The simplicity makes them really plain and dull, in most cases. They're either animals with almost nothing unique except for random black tips or objects with eyes. Sure, there are objects and animals in Gen V and VI, but at least they're actually DESIGNED in an interesting way instead of being drawn with an eye and thrown into the game, like with Gen I. Charmeleon tries to look tough, but it comes off as goofy instead. Squirtle looks like a blue human baby and Pikachu is just..blank. Oversimplified, nonsensical objects and failed kindergartner drawings. Incomprehensible crap with not even a lick of effort thrown into it. If you never knew about Gen I and were introduced to the game on Gen IV or V, you'd think the stuff above was drawn by a retarded Deviantart designer, not the same GameFreak that drew Lucario, Infernape, Torterra, Staraptor Talonflame, Unfezant, Samurott, Empoleon, and hundreds of awesome new Pokémon. Gen 1's sprites were mostly sloppily, atrociously designed. Only twenty or so out of the hundreds of sprites on RBG look like they were drawn with the intent of being something you could look at without wanting to kill yourself for a minute. Furthermore, let's compare the s--- above with the objects on Gen V and VI It's not even close. It's clear that the newer objects have better designs, it looks like GameFreak at least put some THOUGHT into it this time around. They are not just objects with faces, they have loads of extra detail to make it something INTERESTING to look at. Look at Ditto and you'll be bored in twenty seconds flat. The same never happens wih Aegislash, Chandelure or even Vanilluxe. Charmander comes off as tough and smug without even trying this time around. Squirtle and Pikachu are both cute and happy instead of the blank, barely smiling 'Mons we saw above Furthermore, your Charizard, Blastoise or Dragonite is not even a factor here. They're the absolute peak of Gen I, a peak which the newer gens have no trouble equaling or even surpassing The newer versions of the sprites blow them out of the water. The stances showcase the Pokémon's entire body instead of blocking their lower halfs like RBG Articuno, None of them are atrocious or sloppily designed, they are all full of details and actually alive. They don't look sick(RBG Mew) or goofy(RBG Machop). The ones that are meant to look serious DO look serious. Same for the "happy charismatic" ones. Tl,dr: they are spectacular MECHANICS Oh boy, mechanics. Where do i begin? The Psychic-type was totally and utterly broken. Nothing resisted them except Ghost-types, which there was only one evolutionary family of(the Gastly line) and the only Ghost-type moves were Lick and Night Shade. Lick was a piece of crap, and Night Shade's damage was based on your LVL. In other words, it was totally useless until the post-game. ON TOP OF THAT, Gastly and his evolutions were all secondary Poison-types, which are weak against Psychic. As soon as you acquire a Psychic-type good luck having a challenge, because you'll one-shot 3/4 of your opponent's team. Bug-types and Dragon-types were just as useless there was only ONE Dragon-type move and it did fixed damage, and the only useful Bug-type move was Twineedle, which you'd rather teach to Jolteon than anything This is just one out of the several dozen problems with RBG mechanics. Also, lack of natures, abilities and EVS, which made the "competitive"(lol) of the game far less fun than what it is today Conclusion: While you're stuck with your horrible sprites, terrible mechanics, overpowered Psychic-type and objects with eyes on it, i'm already playing Sun and Moon and building my team by LordUnconfirmed to reddit
