They're probably hoping Suicide Squad will do the same for them that Guardians of the Galaxy did for Marvel which was to launch a bunch of unknown characters into the mainstream.

How exactly they're planning to do that is still a mystery. I'll cross my fingers though, because DC really needs to get some good movies out there if they want to stay in the game.
