Fidel Castro Dead At 90

I remember back in Freshman Political Science where Castro's foreign adviser came over to talk for a couple hours. He regaled the times he disagreed with his more daring ideas, where it devolved to debates, then laughter and drinking "Alright, alright, I'll think about it". It could just be because his foreign adviser was a friend to him, but when you compare him to other dictators like Kim Jong Un, he's a sensible dictator, if there ever was one.

The CIA finally got around to it. All of the other attempts to kill Castro failed, but with the dawning of the Age of Aquarius they tried new age telepathy as a last resort. The psychics had to concentrate really hard for 50 years, but they finally got him. The project was a success and deserves additional funding.

People seem to forget that Castro never really intended to be apart of communism or become a communist. He just wanted the USA to stop screwing with the Cubans by funding an even worse government ran by Batista. People also seem to forget that Castro and Kennedy heavily admired each other. What's impressive is how much he's Cuba has accomplished under the aging embargo the US has under the nation. He fought the empire and won.

Now in a more serious note: Castro was probably one of the most polarized politicians in Latin America's history. Some see him as the charismatic but dreadful leader that overthrow the regime of Fulgencio Batista in his island, and expelled the evil influence of the United States out of Cuba, set him as an example for many charismatic but anit-USA leaders around in Latin America (and maybe around the globe). Others say that he was another tropical dictator and his "socialist paradise" was just a mirage . With some shaddy things that happened on the island like: freedom of press, Human Rights, political prisoners, migrants, etc…

So yeah I kind of impress about his death. I would dare to say it's the end of socialism/communism in Latin America as a whole yes, it still have Venezuela but that another different story

Raul has been running the country for a decade now and fidel has been already retired before he passed. Cuba is still pushing along and isn't going anywhere.

And this was 10 years after he almost died due to intestinal bleeding, which is when Raul started to take more control. Amazing that he managed to keep around after that long. His legacy may not have been that good, but at least Raul has been making the country better (as far as I know).

Not American so I don't get the big deal of Communism that much (It's a flawed plan but it still doesn't deserve to be that much hated IMO)
So RIP.

What's a few hundred million dead between a government type, eh?

The wicked live long.

Because 100 million+ have been killed by it, and it is like a virus in that the ideal requires a "perpetual revolution" where all other countries must be subverted or overthrown by force to achieve a global communistic society. Read some Lenin or Trotsky.

Castro and Pierre Trudeau were close friends with each other and Castro was even one of Pierre's pallbearer's at his funeral.

From Canada with love. Rest in peace Castro.

Jesus christ the respect for this dude particularly from the media and from Trudeau is obnoxious. Sure Castro isn't the worst dictator especially from within communism, but he's a dictator and a brutal one all the same. I want to see the people praising him do it to the faces of families who fled from his regime on boats for miles. Because obviously US capitalism is "equally bad" according to tryhard privileged American commies. Praising fake government statistics of "literacy rates" aka ability to read communist pamphlets and overall stretching to blame everything except him being a dick and communism for the problems. Sure it's not the whole problem but deflecting all of it is silly. Like I could bring up all kinds of stupid devil's advocate shit about Hitler like his effects on the economy and Volkswagen but I won't unless it's a joke, and these people clearly aren't joking. Sure Castro was no Hitler but a tyrant all the same.

I never thought I'd see the day that even the mainstream would start rushing to the side of a literal dictator, and one that controlled speech, deflecting everything it's so tinfoil but it's everywhere. Complete madness. There's not much to say I'm just kinda dumbstruck. Assholes thinking they know better than Cuban families who experienced it all.

I must say as much as I hate the left wing, I admire anyone who stands up for his country's freedom and independence in face of foreign intervention.

I go out of town to a place where there's no such thing as tv, a freaking newspaper and, obviously, internet. Then I come back and this is what I find (why big news like these always happen on weekends?).

So, after properly digesting everything I could find it in the news, I'll firstly say that I've always remained neutral when it comes to Fidel's actions across the years but I will not deny that a big puzzle piece of the XX century (Or the world's history in general) is now gone. Just seeing the words "Castro" and "Dead" in that order, I do not know how I could describe it … probably a mix between intriguing, inevitable, historic and bewildered.

And just to think, 2016 is not over yet … december's waiting. Who knows what will happen next?

Lenny Bruce was controversial.
Malcolm X was polarizing.
Fidel Castro was a fucking mass murderer.

Why is this distinction hard to make for so many people?

Is it bad that I had to wait this long just to see if this was some elaborate prank put on by castro about his death? I was honestly waiting for the false alarm news about him being alive to come up and found nothing.
