About
Levitating Pizza / Pizzakinesis is a photoshopped image of a man appearing to levitate a slice of pizza using his mind, estimated to be a pepperoni and sausage pizza from Dominos, size medium. The image itself has been used as an exploitable in various redraws, as well as a meme format by either adding text to the pizza and man or switching out either the pizza or man for other things.
Origin
The actual origin of the pizza levitation image is unknown, but it appears to have started sometime in 2010. The earliest known instance of it appeared on March 3rd, 2010, on the website joyreactor,[1] posted by an anonymous user (shown below).
Spread
In December 2010, the image became more widespread online. On December 1st, 2010, it was posted to the website bordom[2] by user oblio, earning a score of 420 upvotes in roughly 11 years. That same day, it was posted to web forums[3] and meme sites[4] such as Cheezburger. Also during that timeframe, Tumblr user sirgoodtoaster[5] posted animated GIFs using the original image (shown below, left and right).
In 2019, artists began redrawing the photo with various anime and video game characters levitating pizza, food and other objects with their minds. For example, on December 18th, 2019, Twitter[6] user Deadmii posted the following tweet suggesting that people use it as a reference in fan art (shown below).
This tweet sparked a flood of OC fan art recreating the scene shortly after (examples below).
