Every Wild Story You Need To Know From The 'Pokémon Game Freak Gigaleak' Explained

If you're just logging onto the internet for the first time since Friday, chances are you might not know why an image like the one below is a meme.

The combination of Typhlosion, Slaking, Octillery, Lapras and Rapidash seems like the beginnings of a normal-ish Pokémon team – albeit unbalanced with two Water and two Fire types – yet for those in the know, it's a very wink wink, nudge nudge reference to the recent, massive leak of Game Freak data currently sweeping the web.

As has been widely memed about, the leaks contained some pretty salacious, unused lore for Pokémon that does include some people/Pokémon interspecies mating. Granted, the stories aren't canon and are a bit more "Greek myth" than AO3 slash fic, but they are certainly wild for a Game Freak employee to have written down.

Here, we'll break down every bizarre Pokémon story uncovered in the Game Freak leak, starting with the headliner …

The Typhlosion Story

Typhlosion has gotten the most buzz in the wake of the leak. This is because the so-called "gigaleak" contains a lengthy fable in which Typhlosion kidnaps an underage girl, makes her forget her family and fathers a half-human/half-Pokémon child with her.

As will become a theme with this leak, a literal description of the events in the story makes it sound saucier than the story actually is. The idea behind these stories is that they're ancient myths, involving a time when "the line between humans and Pokémon was blurred." Thus, the interspecies relationship here is depicted with the dry language one might find in the Bible, Greek mythology or a folktale — it's not exactly Fifty Shades of Grey.

The "Typhlosion" story specifically may be inspired by old folktales about Mujina, a mythical Japanese creature resembling a badger that Typhlosion may be based on. In folklore, the Mujina is a shapeshifting "yokai" capable of deceiving humans.

While the writers may have been modeling these unused story ideas after ancient folklore, the fact is the leak contains multiple stories about Pokémon getting it on with people, and that in itself has proven to be an exceptionally memeable subject.

The Octillery Story

Like the Typhlosion story, the Octillery story also features human/Pokémon mating depicted in the dry language typical of mythology. This time, a man discovers the Octopus-like Pokémon on the beach and after several encounters, the Octillery bears him a son. The whole tale takes place over three brief paragraphs.

Theme: The Collapse of Culture and Relationships There was a time when the boundary between Pokémon and humans was blurred. In a coastal village, there was a man. One day, as he was walking along the shore, he found a female Octillery washed up on the beach. The man had relations with the Octillery and then threw it back into the sea. The next day, he went to the same spot and found the same Octillery again. He once more had relations with it and threw it back into the sea as before. One night, after several days had passed, the man had a dream. In the dream, the Octillery spoke to him. "I cannot come to you, but I will deliver our child to you. It is our child, yours and mine." The next morning, the man went to the place where he had met the Octillery. There, he found a boy. The man took the boy home and raised him. Time passed, the boy grew into a young man, and the father passed away. The young man was always lonely.

Frankly, the more interesting part of this tale concerns the fact that the child born of man and Octillery ends up fighting an Ursaring to the death in hand-to-hand combat.

Of note, another version of the Octillery story replaces Octillery with Lapras, which is why the Gen I Water/Ice-type is getting roped into leak discourse as well.

"There was a man in a village. One day, the man went out to hunt for a Stantler. While walking along the coast, he found a Lapras on the beach. The man had relations with the Lapras, then sent it back to the sea. The next day, he went to the same spot, and the same Lapras was there. The man had relations with the Lapras again and sent it back to the sea in the same way. A few days passed, and one night, the man had a dream. In the dream, the Lapras said: 'I cannot come to you, but I will send you our child. A child that is yours and mine." The next morning, the man went to the place where he had met the Lapras. There was a boy there. The man took the boy home and raised him. Years passed, the boy grew into a young man, and the father died. The young man was left all alone."

The Slaking Story

The Slaking story also uses interspecies relations as a plot device, though again, it's not as explicit as memers might have you believe.

In this story, a woman and her village torture local Slakoths and Vigoroths, but one day, the woman gets injured and is captured by a group of Slakoths and Vigoroths. A Slaking (Slakoth's final evolution) ultimately has her bear a Slakoth child, and the woman decides to raise it like her own.

The child is then murdered by the villagers, and the woman drowns herself. This ultimately causes the village to live more harmoniously with Pokémon.

Theme: Original Sin Based on the Current Pokémon World In the distant past, when the boundary between Pokémon and humans was still blurred, there was a woman and her companions. Every day, they were bored, so they would often catch Slakoth living in the nearby forest. They played cruel games with the captured Slakoth, sometimes killing them for fun, gouging out their eyes, or cutting off their ears. One day, the woman was walking alone in the forest and saw a Slakoth hanging from a tree. She climbed the tree to catch it, but slipped and injured herself. At that moment, a Vigoroth appeared. This Vigoroth had a torn ear. The woman, startled, tried to flee, but her injured leg hurt too much, and she couldn't move. The Vigoroth with the torn ear suddenly attacked her when it saw her. The woman lost consciousness. When she awoke, she was in an unfamiliar place. Before her lay a clear lake, surrounded by trees, from which many Slakoth and Vigoroth were hanging. All the Pokémon bore wounds somewhere on their bodies-marks left by the woman and her companions. Upon closer inspection, she noticed that some of the Slakoth hanging from the trees were corpses. They were the very Slakoth that the woman and her friends had killed and discarded. The Slakoth were throwing those corpses into the lake. Terrified, the woman tried to run away, but a Slaking appeared. This Slaking also had a torn ear. The woman realized that this was the same Vigoroth she had seen earlier, and fear overwhelmed her, causing her to faint once more. When the woman regained consciousness, she found herself at the entrance of the forest near her home, surrounded by her friends. They carried her back to her house. Some time later, the woman gave birth to a child. But it wasn't a human child-it was a Slakoth. She intended to abandon it, but couldn't bring herself to do so. She stopped meeting with her friends and decided to raise the Slakoth. One day, her friends, concerned about her, visited the area near her home. They found the Slakoth sleeping there--the child of the woman. As they always did, they caught the Slakoth, stabbed it in the chest, and killed it. They took its corpse and headed to the woman's house. When she saw the slain Slakoth, the woman was overwhelmed with sorrow. She grabbed the Slakoth's body and ran deep into the forest. Her friends, shocked, chased after her. As they ventured deeper into the forest, the surroundings suddenly opened up, and they found the same clear lake from before. Around the lake were many Slakoth and Vigoroth. The woman stood before the lake, and, holding the lifeless body of the Slakoth, she threw herself into the water. Afterwards, the woman's friends began to treat Slakoth as companions, just as she had in her final moments.

Again, there's no explicit discussion of how the Slaking impregnated the woman, but it's obviously implied, which is why it's raised some eyebrows and spawned memes.

The Rapidash Story

A story concerning the horse Pokémon Rapidash also has lumped the Pokémon in with those "tainted" by the leaks, but this one does not involve any implied mating.

Instead, a "man from the west" desires to wed a sentient Rapidash for its mane. The two are married and the Rapidash instructs the man on how to interact with others of her species.

The man from the west lowered his bow and said: "Then I will not kill you. However, I desire your beautiful mane, so I ask you to become my wife." The Rapidash became the wife of the man from the west. After about two months, when Ponyta began to appear on the plains, the man from the west was riding on the back of his wife, the Rapidash, running across the plain. Eventually, they reached a place where many Rapidash and Ponyta were resting. The wife said: "They are my husbands. If you need, you may hunt them. If you treat them with care, they will not die. However, do not kill the female Rapidash or the Ponyta. The female Rapidash are my sisters, and the Ponyta are my children. That means the female Rapidash are your sisters-in-law, and the Ponyta are like your children."

Skyla

Lastly, there's the original draft for the character Skyla, a Flying-type Gym leader in Pokémon Black and White.

There's nothing particularly salacious about the draft for Skyla like the stories we've already covered, but many have found it amusing that Game Freak apparently originally conceived her as a "large chested" Latina woman a la "Jennifer Lopez."

Physical charaderistics O Appearance: 165cm tall Around 53 kg in weight. Brown skin. It is slim, but only the chest is large. Dark eyes facial features. O Clothing: Casual clothing such as hot pants and tank tops. More exposure. O Person, appearance image: Isabella Fontana, Jennifer Lopez
