An old video by YouTube legends RDCWorld has inspired a viral meme format that's taking over Twitter.

The meme is known as "Roll the Windows Up," and it's being used to call out dead and dying franchises, with an emphasis on the Crash Bandicoot series.

So, what exactly is the "Roll the Windows Up" meme, where did it come from, and why is it going viral? Here's what you need to know.

What Is The 'Roll The Windows Up' Meme?

The "Roll the Windows Up" meme originates from a video by sketch comedy YouTubers RDCWorld, posted back on July 19th, 2018.

The video, titled VIDEO GAME HOUSE 3, has the members of the group dress as popular video game characters and act like they're on a reality show. It was a popular series for the channel, with the video boasting over 6.6 million views in 2025.

At one point in the skit, the gang rolls up to a stop sign and Mario tells the driver, Minecraft Steve, to "roll the windows up, hurry." He then explains that Crash Bandicoot is coming up, that he's broke and homeless, and that he's going to ask for money.

The joke is that Crash's video game franchise is arguably more dead than the other members of the car, who continue to joke about Crash being broke as they drive by him.

How Is 'Roll The Windows Up' Used In Memes?

In March 2025, the scene started to see some love as an exploitable and redraw meme format. As a redraw format, the scene has been redrawn with new characters in the seats to alter the context, and with the actual characters from the video in the seats, devoid of their RDCWorld roots.

As an exploitable, memers are photoshopping various subjects, like video games and characters, over the faces of the RDCWorld members and the person at the stop sign to give the scene new meanings.

One particularly viral example references the recent closure of the Multiversus servers and represents the men in the car as other fighting games that still have thriving communities.

Basically, the meme is used to call out dead, dying or perceivably inferior franchises.
