The Weekly Meme Roundup: Pepe The King Prawn, Luigi, Marvel Rivals And More
Another week of memes has come and gone, and this time, there were a lot of bangers from every corner of social media.
On TikTok, we got one of the biggest surprise meme formats of the year thanks to Pepe the King Prawn. Meanwhile, Twitter / X is obsessed (and infuriated) over the biggest new game on the block, Marvel Rivals. Then, on just about every platform you can imagine, there's the endless discourse about Luigi Mangione that just keeps on getting more and more insane as the days go by.
December really has blessed us with a lot of great memes so far, and we're not even halfway through! Here are just some of the biggest memes of the week for you to dive into.
Pepe the King Prawn
There's a new Pepe in town, and this one's a king prawn that's being used as a conduit by TikTokers to tell all their most embarrassing and comedically tragic stories.
Pepe the King Prawn is a classic character from The Muppets that made his TV debut way back in 1996. The four-armed flirt quickly became a fan-favorite, even becoming puppeteer Frank Oz's favorite muppet of all time. He was also an integral part of the Ima Keep It Real with U Chief meme.
Now, nearly 30 years later, TikTokers have decided that a low-res photo of Pepe is the perfect, relatable meme format to share all their harrowing stories over. Some of these stories are so insane they've even sparked their own memes, like the "Olive Oil Story."
Pepe is only one of quite a few classic, image macro style memes that have gone viral on the platform recently, also including heavy hitters like Cursed Plankton and Emma Roberts Smiling. I guess you just can't beat the classics, right, folks?

Luigi Mangione
The police have a suspect in the assassination of the UnitedHealthcare CEO, and it's a man named Luigi Mangione, immediately, for many, bringing to mind images of a mustachioed man in a green hat and overalls.
It seems like every new piece of information we receive about Luigi just makes him a more popular subject of memes. Beyond all the memes depicting him as Luigi from Super Mario Bros., the man has also been deemed "hot" by many, resulting in a shirtless photo of him going viral across social media.
Then, there's the fact that he had the Pokemon Breloom in his Twitter banner, inspiring memes that connect him to the Pokemon. If that wasn't enough, the internet is desperately trying to get Luigi out of trouble with the Free Luigi campaign and even suggesting the cops have the wrong guy.
It's been a wild ride for Luigi and everyone else interested in the case so far, and it's looking like it's only going to get weirder from here.

Family Guy NFL Edits
One of the more bizarre memes this week saw people taking Family Guy clips that feature celebrities and editing them so that the clip smoothly transitions to real-life footage of the celebrity while "All 10" by Younginsosleaze plays.

The "Family Guy NFL Edits" trend got started back in late November, but it really started to pick up recently as social media users shared examples of the meme, with many wondering what exactly they were all about.
Mostly, the trend cuts NFL footage into the clips, but as it's evolved it's become more broad, with a version transitioning to Michael Jackson footage going particularly viral on X.
Family Guy has inspired countless memes over its lifespan and this is just the latest, but its hold on certain sections of TikTok and X cannot be understated. Considering how many episodes of Family Guy there are and how many celebrity cameos have happened in the show, the possibilities really are endless. This one is likely to keep popping up for a while to come.

Marvel Rivals (Jeff the Land Shark, Squirrel Girl, etc.)
The much-hyped hero shooter Marvel Rivals came out this week, and its characters quickly became the subject of memes, including everyone from Jeff the Land Shark and Squirrel Girl to the non-playable Galacta.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of the discourse about the game was a little bit on the thirsty side, sparking a resurgence in a meme format known as "I Was the Body Model For X." Beyond that, though, people genuinely seem to be enjoying the game, citing it as a standout in the arguably overcrowded competitive hero shooter genre.
The biggest subject of memes regarding the game is probably Jeff the Land Shark. A lot of players find the character a little too overpowered thanks to a special ability that lets him chew on other players.
When you're done chewing on the player, you can spit them out, and, of course, players are using this ability to spit others straight off the map. If it works it works, I guess, but don't hit me with the "GG" if you're a Jeff main. Just saying.

Cooking With Kya
Finally, a cooking content creator with a penchant for twerking got the attention of a large portion of social media users this week, suddenly turning every man who watches her into a professional chef and every one of their partners into a hater.
Cooking With Kya hasn't even been posting cooking videos for a year and already she's got over a million followers on TikTok and nearly a million on Instagram.
Why? Well, not only does her food look delicious, but she also likes to dance and twerk with the food while chanting, "Cooking with Kya," at the start of each video, which seems to have a hypnotic effect on a lot of people who find her on their FYPs.
Rather than just go viral, Kya has inspired a ton of memes over the past week. On one side, there are a lot of memes about men becoming obsessed with her. On the other side, there are opposing memes about women trying to get their men to stop watching Kya or taking drastic measures when they realize their man is a fan.
It's all jokes mostly, and Kya is even playing into it on her socials, which have been racking up millions of views lately.
