Anyways, I just watched the episode. It was a good one, despite the deus ex machina ending. I don't think Rarity really "likes" Spike. It's equivalent to… well, something. I can't think of an example at the moment. Gratitude kiss!
Also, Rainbow is able to tell who somepony is just by their scream. Dayum.

@Dr. Greg: a few weeks back, Ivan's accounts here and on DA and a few other places got hacked by some guy he knows called Alexander, and basically he trolled for a bit, downvoted about 10 pages of the thread, then deleted everything here and on DA. Apparently Ivan had is passwords in some file on his computer….this time, if it's the same situation, he may just be acting more subtly.

Yeah… It got cut because the teacher went to a another junior high (9th grade is still junior high here) and the school didn't bother to find a replacement (there were all fuck that! ) and that's how we lost our physics and chemistry classes. ;_;

Y'know, today, when I watched the show, I realized something.
I realized how happy this show has made me.
When I saw the intro, I was grinning ear to ear.
I laughed at the jokes, d'aaaw'd at the d'aaaw parts, and smiled at the smile-y parts.
I love this show.

Ignoring the obvious, I loved that sparkly background they did there.

Speaking of Dr. Horse's gif, when I first saw that scene, I thought, "Oh, that's hot. No, Rarity! Don't manipulate Spike like that…"

I was beginning to be a little upset that Rarity was going to go that route, because she's done it before with background ponies in Best Night Ever.

But do you think she just really wanted that gem and wasn't trying to play Spike? That's what I would like to believe based on how she fondly acknowledged him twice later in the episode. Otherwise, Rarity overtaking Pinkie on my personal mane six ranking would have to be strongly reconsidered.

With how ridiculously grateful to him she was the rest of the episode, I would say she wanted the gem, and wasn't trying to play poor Spike. In fact, I think that the shiny background may just be supposed to represent a lovestruck Spike,

Rarity is Rarity, Verbose. She can be extremely greedy at times but can also be extremely loving and caring. It's who she is and what makes her such a believable character.

I have too taken this reconsideration. When it comes to character development now, Rarity's been put on top of the list (thanks to Sweet and Elite).

Also, every character now and then goes out of the "usual" in the show. Like Fluttershy being a badass in Dragonshy, Rainbow being a total douche in Mare-Do-Well (Rainbow Dick is my new nickname for her everytime she acts like that) and of course Rarity putting aside her "element of harmony" to get what she wants.

I'm not mentioning Return of Harmony because they obviously didn't act like that on their own.

Long story short, im drinking cause something happened. Doesnt matter what, Ill go to the doctor tomorrow morning – pills are better because they help long term.

I don't think the ending was a Deus Ex Machina. To qualify as that it has to seem completely out of the blue and contrived. But you could see them building up to the moment from the very beginning of the episode.
