Actually, I'm not a fan of Pony blobs either. I just find regular ponies are cute enough and trying to make them cute in a different way is just a waste of time.

Yeah, for vectors, you'll want Illustrator, for sure. I'd just use GIMP for simple photoshops.
I'll have to grab Illustrator some time. Its an outstanding program.

In theory, I don't know how long it would take, and I could probably only do it with some sort of template.

I'm not sure where I could find a template for the alicorn filly. I may know her name but it would still be hard to find one.
Any raster image should work. It would be easiest to vectorize a pre-existing image instead of coming up with a new one, I don't know if I could do that.

The second option would be nice. Primarily a standing pose like in Nightmare Night, minus the helmet.
