@Muumi – that instantly went into my faves on DA. You're amazing.

About the episode: "meh" sums it up, just as everyone's been saying. While Flim and Flam's song strongly reminded me of the video below, I must say it wasn't as enjoyable. Other than that, there's not much to say about the episode.

Video as promised.

Well, this was the worst saturday I've had in a long time. I miss the episode, and the discussion, and I was dragged to my brother's sporting event. There goes my morning. God, why is everyone flaming the episode to shit?

Check out YouTube, if I'm not mistaken episodes always appear shortly afterwards they air on TV.

I know that. I usually watch them as soon as someone uploads them, but today it's way later than usual. Add that to my already crappy day, and I really feel down. But enough about that, I'm off to watch the new episode.
As for the Creepy Mark Crusaders, I laugh at your inability to handle them.

I actually liked that episode very much. *hipster glasses*
I liked the song too, it was long and intentionally annoying so I thought it was lulzy.
I'm also waitin for Flim Flam incest fics. (jk)
Y u ignore story? I worked a whole three hours on it.

I loved your story. It wasn't that bad. As for the episode, it was okay. It had it's bad moments, but overall it was a good episode. (thank you, YouTube!) The only thing I could think of when Mac said no the first time was Howie Mandel and the show "Deal or no Deal".
That letter was best letter. The troll has been trolled.

I'd never thought I'd say this, but I agree with Spits. Not every S2 episode has to be flamed. Over-analyzing and dissecting is okay, but at least find something nice to say. I think we all can agree that that was the most baws "Dear Princess Celestia" letter. Ever.

Ideological the Vinyl Scratch wrote:

Why must you guys nitpick every single episode in Season 2? No offense, but it can be a downer sometimes.

Its the internet, thats what we do

Ideological the Vinyl Scratch wrote:

Still a downer. Isn't it enough that the MLP team is acknowledging us now? Weren't you pleasing with the fanservice at all? I mean, Dr. Whooves was using a bucking hourglass. That's pretty much a shout out.

Never wanted em to acknowledge bronies. I liked the show for what it was. Early season 1 episodes is where I started liking the show.

Ideological the Vinyl Scratch wrote:

Still sad.

I think I should take a hiatus from the fandom. It's starting to seem like the exact opposite of the show. Excuse me while I play sad music.

Don't leave! We'll miss you.

Not every S2 episode has to be flamed.

Pyro, Pyro, Pyro…

Oh the whole, we loved the first two episodes. We loved Lesson Zero. We loved or liked Luna Eclipsed. We liked Sisterhooves Social. We liked Secret of My Excess. We loved Baby Cakes. We loved The Last Roundup.

You're a smart guy, Pyro. Surely, you recognized that.

Actually, I'd say to not take it personally. Both Ideo and Pyro shouldn't take criticism as a bad thing. And I don't think this episode's been flamed by anyone. I think the worst thing someone has said was that the song was annoying (Algernon) and that the episode was "meh" (opspe.)

That's far from flaming or being overcritical. And I believe everyone has said something good about the episode. I liked the song, most of us liked the letter to Celestia, and it had it's funny parts.

Dudes, weren't you here for The Cutie Pox?

Also, everything shouldn't be given credit just because it's nice. For example, I don't like a lot of expressions of affection (not just on here.) Never have. Because people deal them out so easily that they begin to lose their meaning.

Edited Because I'm obviously being meaner than usual today. I apologize.

This is a fun show, but some episodes aren't as liked as others. AND THAT'S OK.

If you're feeling down about it, then that's something you'll have to adjust to.

Dammit, Spits. We still like the show. We just think that Hasbro is trying too hard to please the fans. They try too hard, and they crash and burn. It's like you trying hard to get a girl to like you. You try your best, doing your very best to please her, doing everything she likes, but you find out it's the exact opposite of what she wants.
-

Verbs, you are right. I need to think more. I've really got to stop listening to Spits. I had a bad morning, so I was willing to go along with what I heard. I know you all loved the episodes, what I said was stupid. I've been making a lot of stupid posts lately. And LIKED Luna Eclipsed? That's my all time favorite episode! I don't know about you, but I LOVED it. Anyway, anything stupid in the paragraph above, disregard it.

Also, he wore a necktie.
I think it's safe to say that he's cannon.
(Better than Derpy speaking, IMO. On that note, inb4 shitstorm.)

For this one though they can't give him a name. That would probably be too close for comfort to copyright infringement to the BBC or whoever owns Doctor Who.

But I do hope to see him pull Derpy into a TARDIS before disappearing.

I don't know, I think they're just throwing shoutouts, and I find it nice. Hell, as I posted somewhere else, I don't see most other companies or shows doing that for their fans.

Well thats the problem. They shouldnt be doing that. Like I said, I liked the show before they figured out who the fans were.
Observer-expectancy effect
That Wikipedia article sort of explains what happens. How people change their behaviour now that they know they are watched
-
You will do what you always did, u will buy what u always bought, but then, when u realize people are watching you will involuntarily try to please them and change your behaviour. You will now "act natural" rather than be natural.

So is the verdict on this episode meh? I liked it to be honest… I loved the end where Applejack was all "I didn't learn anything actually, 'cause I was right all along!" That made my day somehow.

What would you rather them do? Be like the WWE and piss a majority of the fans off?

I thought that was the highlight of the episode. It was a pretty good scene.

Nah, I think that's a fair opinion, Psyduck.

I do think that they most certainly used that stallion as a reference to Dr. Who in this episode. Mayor Mare could have just as easily flipped the hourglass, but they decided to have Dr. Hooves do it instead. A nod that doesn't affect the show. I can dig it.

Ashki wrote:

Do what they always did. Make episodes for children and their families to enjoy, not try and give a shout-out to bronies.
-
But its late for that, you can't unlearn something like that so, they will now forever know that we're the fans and will automatically be in that Observer-expectancy effect.
-
Dont make the show for the fans, do it as u always did and u will get fans. Thats how they got fans in the first place.

Like I said: Do we all agree that the letter was the best letter written to Celestia ever?
I think we do. It was the highlight of the episode. As for the Observer-expectancy effect: It has merit. Ed has a valid point.

This. I like references when they don't directly influence the show. Like the Derpy thingy last week.

ACTUALLY, the doctor in Doctor Who just goes by "The Doctor". So if they called him "Doctor Whooves", they wouldn't really be infringing anything.

And as for his TARDIS, that would be awesome if he just stepped out of a phone booth in the background or something.

Or maybe giving him a British accent in his next line.

Or being afraid of shadows in Twilight's library.

Or eating an apple and calling it "rubbish".

Well, I have a few thoughts. Like most everyone else, I didn't really like it that much. There was just something about those cider jerks that made it insufferable. And the song, oh the song! It was so. Fucking. Annoying.

I did think RD not getting any cider was hilarious. It was a good running gag. And when everypony joined in to help the Apples, that was a highlight.

And then there was the ending, which made my day.

I agree somewhat. I think some nods are fine as long as they don't affect the episodes. Finding Derpy in the background isn't anything particularly problematic.

But I think what you may be saying (Hawthorne Effect is what we learned it as) is that writers and animators will have that in mind. Not only are young girls watching it, but adult men are watching it as well.

However, I think that the season is still better than season 1. By a lot. So I'm not worried.

Also, this.

Holy holies, that's amazing Citation.

Yea, that was just… Meh. I liked Derpy, at least up until that episode.
(Mostly because she overshadowed Applejack, but still.)

One could argue that the derpy thing has serious influence on the show. Specifically that it is so dependant on its unintended fans (bronies – us) that the writers felt the need to call her what we called her 'Derpy'. Although you are right, it doesnt have much of the influence on the actual point of the show episode, that Derpy thing just shows that Hasbro is working towards pleasing its fans rather than just making the show like they did before they knew about us.

My brain would have exploded if the Mayor had said, "Now Doctor, if you will." or something along those lines.

I for one love shoutouts. It makes the show about 20% cooler (still waiting for them to use that one again).

Well, I'll say this, you might mind it, but I don't, and as it was mentioned, the deal this episode didn't have a real influence on the episode like the last one did.
