Helo guys. Just seen all the talk about the Pony Personality Test and decided make it

I honestly didn't expect Applejack at all. Though I tried to take the test seriouly (ok, I chose Scootaloo, but just that), and expected to be part of the Twilight club since I'm more of an information-lover guy, or to get Fluttershy, since I'm more reclusive. But yeah, I didn't find it too bad.

RD and Scootaloo are sisters, too late for that:

read the dang document. It says sisters, not mom-daughter. Take that society.

Hmmm, could there be a correlation between pony personality and posting style? Lets find out:

Name                Primary pony      Secondary Ponies            Notable posting style
nintendork Twi Flutter serious
Iambob Pinkie Flutter humorous/serious
Dac-attack AJ …. angry/serious
opspe RD Pinkie, Twi, AJ humorous/serious/intellectual
PluNlu Pinkie Flutter, Twi images
BSOD Twi Pinkie humorous/serious/intellectual
Verbose AJ …. serious/witty/intellectual
Algernon Twi Flutter humorous/serious/intellectual
Owens Flutter Twi images/casual
Random AJ Pinkie, Twi, RD, Flutter images/humorous/witty/serious
Sandwichman Twi Dash, Flutter, AJ casual
Muumi Flutter RD, Twi, Pinkie serious/casual
lolstaz AJ RD, Twi, Pinkie casual
Ric Tesla Twi Flutter images/humorous/casual
Fridge Logic Twi …. Images/Casual
Burning Phoneix AJ …. serious/witty/intellectual
Riyku Ku Pinkie Flutter, RD, AJ Casual
Idealogical Twi Flutter images/humorous
Notso Twi Flutter, AJ humorous/casual
Iamslow Rarity Pinkie images/humorous
Dr. Gregory AJ Twi, RD images/humorous/serious
Connor Twilight Pinkie, RD images/humorous
Berry RD Pinkie, Rarity images/humorous

Don't be offended if I described your posting style wrong, this is all just my perspective

I particularly like how Verbose and Phoneix got such similar results considering their very similar posting styles. Likewise, other more serious posters got AJ too.

Many of the posters that dedicate themselves to posting images rather than text got Twilight. In fact, most of us here happen to be Twilights. All we can take from that is being smart wont give you Twilights personality as her personality is actually independent of her intellect, neither will being an image spammer give you Pinkie's.

Can we see any trends here?

[edit]

To answer my own question: No, no trends. Disappointing

Hey, hey, I'm not intellectual? haha I kid, I kid. It's interesting to note how many Twi's there are, so much so that there aren't many correlations.

That's some serious data crunching you've done there though. I just don't see much interpretation coming from it, maybe I'll run it through Matlab. Wow my research is rubbing my mind the wrong way.

Alright fine Captain Chemistry, you get the intellectual label :P

There's not much I can pull from the table but I just had the most insane urge to do it. I am not surprised to find little connections in the results but I just needed to get a summary down at the very least. My scientific curiosity demanded it.

[edit]

LOL Matlab! Do it! I dare you! Lets see the results plotted on an area graph :D

Well I noticed you snuck an "intellectual" in for yourself too… :P:P

As for Matlab, I was going to assign numerical values to everything and try to run a PCA on them. Hell, I have nothing to do tonight, maybe I will

Updated, for you Greg.

That's why I said "Notable", as in "Only the posting styles that I actually notice". I won't deny that you can make serious posts I just don't see them as often compared to guys like Nintendork who post with extreme melancholy

If anyone else wants me to correct their posting style. Please do so soon as I only have 10 minutes left to edit the table

@Blue Screen (of death)
I do have intellect. But I choose not to show it. I see my computer time as play time. Not serious time. :|
But I do if I fee like it and if it is necessary for a humerus laugh. Also because of my OC.

No worries, my table isn't saying that you don't have intellect. I'm certainly not in a position to make such judgements.

I'm just saying you don't always express that in your posts (and thats OK, we all act sillier than we really are here. Its nice to not have to think every now and then)

If you made posts comparable to Verbose and Phoneix then I would have labelled you as an intellectual posters but all that would be really saying is that you post like them. It says nothing about anyone's intelligence

@opspe

Yea, small stroke of narcissism there X^D I'm terrible.

Okay man. I just tend to have my thoughts to be shorted our properly in one post so I can respond correctly at times.

@Blue Screen (of death)

Hmm, I like to think of my general posting being serious/intellectual. I generally try to avoid using images unless sharing art, and I usually think through my posts before posting them.

@Blue Screen (of death)
I would not of called myself a casual poster a week ago since i posted more a week ago but i do say that i have been posting less for the past 5 days

Also i need to go to bed now bye you guys

AND THE RESULTS ARE IN! (Good god, I feel like Maury giving results for a paternity test)

Now this might be hard to interpret, so I'll give it explaining it a shot. Each red dot represents a character in the show, and each blue vector represents one of the personality traits as described in BSOD's data. The direction and magnitude of each vector represents its contribution to the two principal components (the data can be summarized in terms of two components which account for most of the variance – Component 1 and Component 2).

Note that this only takes into account the primary ponies. I wouldn't be able to include the secondary ponies without making things really, really complicated. Like, 3-D graph complicated.

So, it can be seen that Twilight and AJ are towards the intellectual end of the spectrum, and that Twilight is more casual and humourous, while AJ is serious and witty. The other four don't have a large enough sample size compared to the other two to make any decent comparisons, which is why they're on the left side of the chart. But it appears that RD is more likely to be serious, then Pinkie, and finally Fluttershy and Rarity being the least serious.

Well, that was amusing. Good practice for my research too, believe it or not.

INB4 Drpepperfan: Welcome to the Dash club. We're clearly 20% cooler than the Twilluminati or whatever.

Hey DPF, you should take the test too. Although, too bad for you that Trixie isn't an option.

FINE THEN. GAWD. YOU'RE NOT EVEN MY REAL MOTHER.

Dash? Totally not a surprise. Have you seen how bitchin' i am? I'm one pimp motherlover.

WHAT?! Who told you those lies?! IT WAS VERBOSE, WASN'T IT?! I should have known those walls of text were nothing but trouble!

@Drpepperfan

I ctrl-f'd your name through the last couple pages before I put up the table but I couldn't find a personality test from you, that's why you didn't get included. Glad you finally put one up though

@Citation

Aw, crap I missed you. I was looking at pictoral charts only so I completely missed your post where typed out your result.

Sorry about that, if I saw that then I would have grouped you in with the other discussion-based posters. Try doing the test again and posting a link to the results or the actual chart

@Riyku

I wasn't sure what to say about your posting style so I just put casual. Sorry

@opspe

You sir, are awesome

I can put up a second table with updated results from more posters (too late to modify the original), that should give you more data to work with. But I might wait for a couple more people to submit a result before I do that

Furthermore if the table supplied a broader range of posting attributes then you would see the rest of the mane 6 get some highlights. In order to do that, I need peoples opinions. I can't be the sole judge over the exact attitudes that each poster uses. I can only provide the broad attitudes that are visible from a glance

Last edited Dec 19, 2011 at 10:54PM EST

@BSOD: I couldn't find an image with the appropriate personas, so this will have to suffice.

And for the new data: sounds good, I will update accordingly. There are one or two things I could play around with, and I'll see about including secondary ponies as a half-point or something. I'm going to be travelling all day tomorrow though, so hopefully the new data gets generated before then. I'll probably have wifi once I get the train in Seattle, but Amtrak has really, really slow internet as I recall. Kinda goes with its service. If not then it'll wait for when I get home.

Not all the time. Its just the personality trait that stood out to me most.

As far as I have seen, you have made some aggressive posts in the past, even when you were not angry. I ended up perceiving you as the "angry poster" as a first impression (but to be fair, I've seen some pretty angry posts from Scout, Citation and Phoneix too)

All my opinion only, other posters here might have a different take on that. Furthermore if I rewrite the table I made, you can submit what your posting style is and I will accept your point of view over mine.

A bit late, but I'll take literally any excuse to use this:

I might take that personality test doohickey in a bit, but out of curiosity: What type of poster do I tend to come off as?

All my opinion only, other posters here might have a different take on that.

nope he mad lol

If I could rank the users, then I'd say dac-attack!!! would be in the highest quarter in terms of aggression along with CitationNeeded, Gigatoast, and a couple of others. I would also rank myself in the top half. Not that it's a bad thing.

Also, opspe, your graph is a work of art. I'm only acquainted with a few statistical analyses the most complicated being logistic regression. The graph reminded me of that in the sense that I believe the components predict likelihood of getting a certain result/outcome, and the ranges for all of the users are not greater than 1.0 or less than 0.0.

But that ain't pony. Do you think we'll get to see Scootaloo's parents in the next episode about 2 and a half weeks from now? Surely, we must. I know the episode revolves around Apple Bloom and Granny Smith, but this is a prime opportunity to nix the idea that Scoots is an orphan.

@BSOD: Check your wall mate

@Nuke: Within the confines of BSOD's categories, to me you seem images / serious / intellectual.

@Verbose: Thanks. I wish my research were that simple; I have 510 of those blue vectors, not 6, and I can't label them.

Fourth wall? What fourth wall?
