I know this subject is closed, but since this is the internet (The number one source for unwarranted self importance), I just can't let this go without stating my opinion.
So here it is in all it's glory…
X-singular's TL;DR post explaining why he's okay with this:
No, you didn't misread that title.
As most of you should remember I was the starter and main driving force behind the Derpy shitstorm in the last thread. and yes I'm actually "okay" with what's going on this time.
Further down I'll explain what I wasn't "okay" with last time, but for now here's why I am "okay" with what's going on:
1 They changed her voice:
I'm okay with this because she didn't have that much lines anyway, it' not like they changed Celestia's voice or anything, while I do believe the old voice is a zillion times better, and that this voice is way too generic (even sub-Bonbon in generic-ness), I don't think it's that much of a problem, I don't mind Derpy as a non-speaking character either, what I was excited about was the acknowledgment Hasbro has given us by giving her lines.
2 They returned her eyes to normal:
I'm okay with this because Derpy didn't always have Derp-eyes and she was still called Derpy.
Even according to fanon, Derpy isn't always wall-eyed.
Plus according to this guy it's fine, and I quote:
On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. As an animator of the show, rest assured, she'll be fine.
Hasbro trying to shut up the "offended" parties, while still alienating bronies as little as possible.
3 They removed her name:
And now this is what I'm most pissed about, but unlike last time I'm okay with this.
"Why?" you ask?
Because just because she wasn't called "Derpy" doesn't mean her name isn't "Derpy", they could have just as easily made Rainbow Dash say "Careful Ditzy!" or whatever, but they didn't to preserve the spirit of the original character, the pegasus mailmare named Derpy Hooves.
Then why am I pissed?
Well, here we get to the part of why I wasn't okay with what happened during the course of the last thread.
THE WORD DERP IS NO A SLUR DAGNABIT !!! it was coined here on the internet, and has no offensive meaning, this all felt like another "race guy" rageface indecent to me last time.
and even if Hasbro thought it was a slur, and they were trying to "think of the children" and the little girls that watch the show, here's what:
That does not give you an excuse to come into OUR internet and censor the word, and treat it like I'm saying the n-word or the f-word, last time I checked "we love fine" sold adult-sized merchandise for MLP, a little girl is as likely visit that site and it is likely for her to visit this site, which is to say: unlikely as f***.
And it most certainly does NOT give you permission to censor a voice actor's (Tabitha St. Germain) personal blog from the "offending" word.
I can't see you censoring Tara Strong's suggestive tweets, and yet you suddenly become all responsible and sh*t over a word you don't even know the meaning of?
You gotta admit, such draconian methods are completely and totally bull-friggin'-horsesh*t.
As part of the MLP subculture I'm forced to tolerate what you did Hasbro.
But as part of the Internet subculture, I'm mad.
but in their defense:
Why can't I (and neither can you) blame them for being suspicious over that word?
The answer:
it's the Internet, the same place where fag and faggot (very bad slurs IRL) are used casually and with abandon, it's so widely used it became some sort of a pseudo-endearing suffix.
The very same Internet that states in its very own rules that hatred makes things grow, corrupting innocence is satisfying, and that the existence of porn for everything is an inevitability.
The same internet that's so obsessed with >rape, a really sensitive topis IRL that shouldn't be tossed around lightly.
So thank you for keeping Derpy's color scheme and not replacing her with Cloud Kicker or some other random pegasus.
While you lack faith in the internet (and I can't blame you for it), I'm glad you still have some faith in your fans Hasbro.
As for Derpy: you'll always be Derpy to us, our beloved wall-eyed muffin-loving mail-mare, it has nothing to do with Hasbro or the show, you were always the avatar of the Derp inside all of us, and the will to overcome it or at least learn to live with it as well as you do.
If you actually took the time to read that than your eyes are probably tired from reading all that wall of text, so here's some best pony to remedy them:
