KYM Pony General V: We Just Don't Know What Went Wrong

Any questions?

Gotta admit, I was pissed 26 comments ago, but now I see that's the type of thing we all gotta get past. Whenever something bad happens to us we tend to search desperately for a target to lash out towards, that kind of reaction is what holds us back and gives us a bad name.

I can't remember the last time any of us actually loved and tolerated. Disappointment, disappointment everywhere.

Back to ponies.
Also, Daniel, replace the "dub" in that word with "bro".

When in doubt, go to Ponibooru and type in "vinyl_scratch".

Taking it off iTunes is a LOT easier. Think about it, taking an episode off iTunes requires just one man moving some digital fairy dust around with a click of the mouse. Nothing is lost.

The DVDs involve stopping an entire production line (which may be in a different country depending on where the actual factory is), destroying the original DVDs already printed and creating new ones from scratch. That costs $$$.

Buy the DVD now guys. The next batch may have the altered voice.

@Cite

I don't remember that. If I said anything like that it was either in jest or I was bullshitting

It's true that I find some of his stuff to be a load of random noise but I dislike only those individual works, I have nothing against Skrillex himself. He has made stuff I have liked before

Anyway, moving on.

You know come to think of it, until further notice the whole “It’s just iTunes, Hasbro’s not deliberately dissing us” theory seems to fit really well.

- The iTunes version of the episode was taken down and modified specifically.
- No other version was touched, including the DVD which should be a hell-of-a-lot easier to modify.
- All other references to the scene and character remain intact on the interwebs.
- None of the later episodes released have been un-derped.

So you know what…

They took the thing down, what did ya think they where doing to it? It’s cheaper in the long run to have DHX modify it and make the iTunes guys happy then to not be able to sell it from one of their biggest money pots.

Until we get some real word from someone there’s no more reason to panic now then when the episode was taken down in the first place. It’s just interesting to think there’s some bastardized faux-Derpy running around somewhere. (I hear the new voice is pretty good though, can’t disagree there)

Also this (again from Gigatoast; what would we do without you, man?)

@Bruelock

Read the last two pages, we've covered it in full detail

@Troper

We would surely be lost in chaos and dismay without Gigatoast. We would also be hungry. 1 GToast is a lot of toast. Enough to provide breakfast for the entire 1st world. Losing Gigatoast means losing Breakfast for everyone

Well It's time for me to leave. I'm going to ditch you guys with this awesomeness:

Steampunk, Portal and Ponies…I love this fandom

That's close enough. We can't just jump into conclusion and create mumbles and jumbles of confusions around. I also like the new voice too. It's just that the replacement of the eye-positioning deeply sickens me, totally ruined Derpy's character. They can keep that voice but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT alter Derpy's holy derp eyes. But I do believe that the officials will set them back to way it was after all that commotion about "Derpy is offensive as a image of laughing at the disabled" conspiracy. Yeah, It kind of surprise me at first when I read the new modification of "The Last Round-Up". Good thing I didn't wake up from a heavy hangover or else I'll tossed my laptop out of my window. But still, why the animators want to disappoint the fandom, that would be a huge impact if that ever happens. Yeah, we all better chillex and sit back to see how it goes.

thx for the heads-up everyone!

@burning_phoneix

Thank you Captain Optimism, where would we be without people who whip everyone into a tizzy of rumors, assumptions and misdirected rage? Oh yes, not in this s**thouse in the first place.

Will you also be informing me how Bioware including launch day DLC for Mass Effect 3 is somehow a violation of our rights as a consumer, since we're obviously entitled to any and all content created before the game's official release next?

Oh sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent there.

Gigatoast wrote:

I feel I need to address this. Please read even if you don't like tl;dr

I see elements of love and toleration pretty much everyday in the Brony community. Look at the last page of this topic, we have a right to be disappointed in this change but I feel (us in the KYM community) took it with great maturity. We are upset sure, But we did not call for boycotts our started slinging hate around but rather took a measured approach and understood why Hasbro (or Apple or whoever till we get more information) took this step even though we vigorously disagree with it. (I will write another time about what I think of Hasbro's decision)

Illustrated: KYM Brony reaction to Derpy news, mostly

What about other communities besides ours? Look at the comments in the article you linked to, a very large amount are positive and understanding (of the large sample I have read) in an issue where we are in the right but we accept the crushing forces of the capitalist machine (not Hasbro themselves but the expectations placed upon them as a family friendly publicly traded company).

I believe a LOT of our so called "problems" are merely storms in teacups. A couple of issues here and there that could have escalated to complete community destruction did not happen.

I guarantee you if the argument between CitationNeeded and Ideo (sorry to use you as an example guys, it's for a good cause :( ) happened in any other forum, BANHAMMERS would be ringing in the valley of war as the screams of children were stifled by the battle-cries of doom. But as always, our calmer instinct prevails and we return to discussing why Applejack is so underrated.

We bronies raeg at times yes, but at least the target of our rage (the alteration of a fan favorite character for non-existent slurs) is a lot better than many other fandoms simply because (I feel, you may disagree) we are in the right unlike the Bioware fandom who raeged and raeged and even abused extremely a writer at Bioware for sexist and homophobic reasons. Or the idiots at the Blizzard fandom who raeged that Diablo III wasn't Brown, Black and Red or those fucks who edited Faith from Mirror's Edge to have bigger boobs and wider eyes (She is Asian) and called it "improving a character" by being racists AND sexist at the same time.

My final point being: Don't let little problems get you down on this fandom, I've seena lot worse and trust me….we're better than many out there. Is bad stuff gonna happen? Of course it will, if you think anything is going to go perfectly smooth in your life then I have bad news for you, it isn't. But the good news is that through thick and thin, you'll always have good things with you (Family, Friends and Ponies.)

Now gentlemen, back to your regularly scheduled ponies.

I'm just saying, it's very probable that the next batch of DVDs will have the altered episode simply because industrial process didn't allow the first batch to be edited in time.

Of course, there is a possibility it would remain the same but it would be very odd for differing versions to be available to the public, simply due to corporate standardization.

And where the fuck did that ME3 thing come from? 0_o

Last edited Feb 25, 2012 at 04:43AM EST

I was about to go off like never before with a tl;dr, but I think we're past that. Just keep in mind that the other side has a legitimate and logical argument, and that those defending Derpy as she was presented merely have an emotional appeal (albeit a legitimate one.)

You may attempt to argue that, but I wouldn't suggest it.

The word "Derp?" They have a point.
Minority of bronies or non-bronies? Doesn't matter.
Oversensitive? No, not really.

I can argue all of those from different academic fields and with my own experience. Just keep that in mind…

Also, there's a synopsis up for…some yellow pony…again…

Sounds interesting…

I can't really complain. There have been episodes for Rarity, Rainbow Dash, Applejack (sorta), Pinkie Pie, Twilight Sparkle, and even Spike and the Cutie Mark Crusaders (well…except for the cool one,) <img src="http://img.ponibooru.org/_images/7db473d701da03224dbf5db3d1bd5516/132095%20-%20artist%3Aretrantulus%20cutealoo%20FAIC%20scootaloo%20vector.png" height="40" / > so I guess 2 Fluttershy episodes is warranted.

Now you may go back to enjoying the Fluttershy. I'm going to feel bad about that Scootaloo who still hasn't got her airtime yet.

But yet you do admit to there being problems. You guise want to analyze the hell out of every thing, set rules as to code of conduct to posting, and get mad at one another over the silliest shit sometimes.
New episodes come on and everyone wants to analyze it and talk. Is anyone making macros? Is anyone posting new stuff from other boards or sites? Is anyone talking about this being a meme in any way at all? Or has the fandom become split into (something I saw recently and made me think) bronies and ponyfags?
Bronies being this

and ponyfag (as in newfag, oldfag, etc. ) being this

@Verbose
Ok then, please explain to me how the name "Derpy" is offensive, or even relevant to the show's target audience or anyone who could supposedly be hurt by it. Then explain to me how this is a big enough issue to warrant a major alteration. Then, just for funsies, go watch some other kids shows being aired both on The Hub and other stations and tell me there's nothing offensive you could extrapolate from them.

The point is, I can guarantee you the attacks on Derpy as a character are just as much fueled by emotion as the defenses. There isn't much logic to either side.

Keep in mind I'm not saying Derpy's portrayal was entirely flawless, I do kind of cringe a little when I hear her old… erm… 'simple' voice. But again, there isn't anything offensive about that that you can't find in most other cartoons and obviously the only reason it's an issue is because it's this show with this fanbase.

4 pages?
Shit musta gone down or som'n.
I skimmed the last few pages 'cause I'm a bit lazy (and by that I mean I looked at the pictures and read every 100th word) and from what I can tell something happened to do with Derpy.
To be honest I've stopped caring about Derpy just because I can't be arsed to keep up with everything that's happening.

I know this subject is closed, but since this is the internet (The number one source for unwarranted self importance), I just can't let this go without stating my opinion.
So here it is in all it's glory…

X-singular's TL;DR post explaining why he's okay with this:

No, you didn't misread that title.
As most of you should remember I was the starter and main driving force behind the Derpy shitstorm in the last thread. and yes I'm actually "okay" with what's going on this time.
Further down I'll explain what I wasn't "okay" with last time, but for now here's why I am "okay" with what's going on:

1 They changed her voice:
I'm okay with this because she didn't have that much lines anyway, it' not like they changed Celestia's voice or anything, while I do believe the old voice is a zillion times better, and that this voice is way too generic (even sub-Bonbon in generic-ness), I don't think it's that much of a problem, I don't mind Derpy as a non-speaking character either, what I was excited about was the acknowledgment Hasbro has given us by giving her lines.

2 They returned her eyes to normal:
I'm okay with this because Derpy didn't always have Derp-eyes and she was still called Derpy.
Even according to fanon, Derpy isn't always wall-eyed.
Plus according to this guy it's fine, and I quote:

On the issue on Derpy whether she'll have the same Derp face expression and stuff. As an animator of the show, rest assured, she'll be fine.

Hasbro trying to shut up the "offended" parties, while still alienating bronies as little as possible.

3 They removed her name:
And now this is what I'm most pissed about, but unlike last time I'm okay with this.
"Why?" you ask?
Because just because she wasn't called "Derpy" doesn't mean her name isn't "Derpy", they could have just as easily made Rainbow Dash say "Careful Ditzy!" or whatever, but they didn't to preserve the spirit of the original character, the pegasus mailmare named Derpy Hooves.

Then why am I pissed?
Well, here we get to the part of why I wasn't okay with what happened during the course of the last thread.
THE WORD DERP IS NO A SLUR DAGNABIT !!! it was coined here on the internet, and has no offensive meaning, this all felt like another "race guy" rageface indecent to me last time.
and even if Hasbro thought it was a slur, and they were trying to "think of the children" and the little girls that watch the show, here's what:

That does not give you an excuse to come into OUR internet and censor the word, and treat it like I'm saying the n-word or the f-word, last time I checked "we love fine" sold adult-sized merchandise for MLP, a little girl is as likely visit that site and it is likely for her to visit this site, which is to say: unlikely as f***.

And it most certainly does NOT give you permission to censor a voice actor's (Tabitha St. Germain) personal blog from the "offending" word.
I can't see you censoring Tara Strong's suggestive tweets, and yet you suddenly become all responsible and sh*t over a word you don't even know the meaning of?
You gotta admit, such draconian methods are completely and totally bull-friggin'-horsesh*t.

As part of the MLP subculture I'm forced to tolerate what you did Hasbro.
But as part of the Internet subculture, I'm mad.

but in their defense:
Why can't I (and neither can you) blame them for being suspicious over that word?
The answer:
it's the Internet, the same place where fag and faggot (very bad slurs IRL) are used casually and with abandon, it's so widely used it became some sort of a pseudo-endearing suffix.
The very same Internet that states in its very own rules that hatred makes things grow, corrupting innocence is satisfying, and that the existence of porn for everything is an inevitability.
The same internet that's so obsessed with >rape, a really sensitive topis IRL that shouldn't be tossed around lightly.

So thank you for keeping Derpy's color scheme and not replacing her with Cloud Kicker or some other random pegasus.
While you lack faith in the internet (and I can't blame you for it), I'm glad you still have some faith in your fans Hasbro.

As for Derpy: you'll always be Derpy to us, our beloved wall-eyed muffin-loving mail-mare, it has nothing to do with Hasbro or the show, you were always the avatar of the Derp inside all of us, and the will to overcome it or at least learn to live with it as well as you do.

If you actually took the time to read that than your eyes are probably tired from reading all that wall of text, so here's some best pony to remedy them:

I don't understand the point you're trying to make here Daniel.

Ok, you guise are forcing me to do this. All you want to do is say "What happened to the old Brony Community" and "Ok then, please explain to me how the name Derpy is offensive". Well here is the old community telling you to STFU. I'm tired of seeing you guys get in these lil tiffs of yours and if you guise aren't going to make this a fun place I'm just going to have to make it fun for me.

that wasn't my question and you didn't answer anything I asked. read it again

The reiterate your questions, I'm not really getting it. You seem to say that discussing an episode is bad somehow? And that we don't post things from other boards or websites? (when have we done that really) or discuss how ponies are a meme?

We always posting silly pictures around here, more than we talk I think. Hell, I am obligated to throw in a funny or cute picture with every post because I'm afraid people will scroll past my text.

discussing an episode is one thing over analyzing is another. "Silly pics"? Oh you mean image macros those things that started this meme and subsequently started the fanbase?
As for what I was asking "are we splitting into bronies and ponyfags?" still no reply but I think I have been seeing it more and more

Last edited Feb 25, 2012 at 08:39AM EST

Image macros are a part of this fandom but you're unique in the fact that the macros drew you to this fandom.

A lot of people like the show, the characters, the songs, the animation and many other things. To claim that image macros started the fanbase is over-stretching it's importance. No one aspect can claim it.

As for what I was asking “are we splitting into bronies and ponyfags?” still no reply

If you want an answer to that question, you're gonna have to explain it better. Two pictures to represent "brony" and "ponyfag" is not enough to go on.

And you're not really answering my questions either. Just telling me to "go read the questions again" whenever I ask for clarification.

(And before anyone asks, no we are not arguing (at least…I don't think so) we're discussing. There's a difference :P )

Holy shit, I missed a lot last night.

Honestly, I'm not too bothered by the whole Derpy thing. I think the voice is a downgrade, and I'm not happy that some asshat thought she was so inappropriate that she had to be censored, but is it really worth getting worked up over? It's not like Hasbro just hunted down every last copy of the old version and destroyed them. We'll still have the full shoutout in the old YouTube versions, and they might even put the old version back up for all we know.

Anyways, it's not like the new version is that bad…

@Fluttershy episode

I'm liking the sound of this one. I've always liked Fluttershy, but I have to admit that she lacks depth compared to the rest of the mane 6. With the next two Fluttershy episodes, she'll finally be getting some decent character development!

Still wish we had moar Scootaloo though…

So, apparently we're not getting a new episode today. I didn't realise this until like, right now, so now I haz a sad.

I'm still planning on setting up a SynchTube tonight like usual, and again I won't mind if somebody else wants to start one before me. Expect it at 11:00pm GMT, or whenever that is in your crazy timezone. Also, there may be TF2 afterwards, so if you're not into SynchTube you'll probably find a bunch of us there after a couple of hours.

Because you just want discussion and not argument fine i will answer you.
1.To claim that image macros started the fanbase is over-stretching it’s importance. No one aspect can claim it.
*Hmmmm since it started on 4chan. I would say no I'm not and yes one can. remember I have been here since the beginning.

2.To give you a lil explanation between the two pics Twist: a candy-ass dork. Flutterguy: Dark disturbed psycho. I thought the two comparisons were pretty self explanatory. There seems to be a split in the fandom of the two. people who say "why would you post that" and people who say "do it faggot".
can ya see what I'm getting at?

I really don't want to see anymore arguments and stay outta my shed

Last edited Feb 25, 2012 at 09:12AM EST

Well this is at least a much better discussion topic than the Derpy controversy. I didn't want to discuss that and now you guys know why.

So Daniel. Who here would you say is a "candy-ass dork" and who is a "Dark disturbed psycho"? Where would you put us in your little categorization?

I'm curious because I can't see a defined line that separates all the users here. We all seem to be pretty diverse.

Last edited Feb 25, 2012 at 09:28AM EST

Hard to say BSOD. I think a lot of you guise started kinda candy-ass and are now a lil hardened by what you have seen but I can say that Berry, Connor, RandomMan, Myself (probably left out a few) are definitely the Dark psychos.
here is a lil test for ya
would you rather have
A. show accurate toy from hasbro any character
B. custom vinyl flutterguy with DerpCozy
C. custom plot painting by your favorite artist

Every body likes to think of themselves that way, don't they Daniel?

Aren't we all dark psychos on the inside?…With our little past transgressions and the horrors we have experienced…with our shitty lives lead by our terrible decisions?

You have not left out a few but you left out one…one which you probably wouldn't have expected otherwise.

…have you ever experienced true insanity?

A. show accurate toy from hasbro any character
B. custom vinyl flutterguy with DerpCozy
C. custom plot painting by your favorite artist

Lets go with B

@Daniel
Am I the only one who has no idea what you're getting at?
Are you saying that the old bronies (ponyfags) don't like the show and only like the fandom? And that the new bronies only like the show? Are you saying the Ponyfags are weird and perverse?

There are not enough words to describe how I feel about all of you. Oh wait, there is:
I hate all of you. And this thread. I hate what we've been reduced to, and how far we've fallen. I am ashamed at you and what has transpired here. I don't know if I even care about this place anymore, much less the people who occupy it. I'm sorry to say, that I am officialy torching this place. If you guys don't fix this mess by the time I get back, you will all be reduced to a smoldering pile of ash. You have twelve hours. Get your act together.

I guess this is my first post on this new Pony General thread, and maybe I'm coming here at a bit bad time, when people are so upset with this Derpy situation and all.

I don't like this happening, but they are a business corporation, and since the American society has a tendency to sue anyone for anything, no matter how ridiculous, I can understand this extreme reaction from Hasbro.

But even though I understand them, it doesn't mean I have to approve of their actions.

Anyways, the main reason I came here, was to present my newest FiM related drawing as usual, and I know that at least RandomMan has been waiting for this one ever since he found out about its existence.

For those who don't get the idea behind this, it's humanized Celestia, crossed over with Utsuho "Okuu" Reiuji from the Touhou Project.

I think they fit together pretty well, and Celestia's wrath could probably be compared to facing Okuu on Lunatic Mode. You know, like meeting the business end of the fist of an angry god.

Anyways, that's all from me this time around. I'll return to lurking mode, and post if I see something interesting.

Yes, this is sadly the only "Don't let the door hit you' image I could find. I'm aware it sucks.

Anyways, has the episode aired yet? I heard it was moving to a 1 o'clock timeslot, so I slept in. But when I checked today, it showed at 1 o'clock Dan Vs. was on. But nobody here's talking about the episode, and there's nothing on EqD.
