So, I just caught up with Homestuck.

I'd never done that before. It was over a year ago when I first attempted to read all of it. At that point, Homestuck was 2000 pages shorter, and I still didn't make it.

This summer I read Problem Sleuth in one weekend. That was the warm-up I needed.

Those of you who started when Homestuck was new probably have read it through "until current" many times before. But this is my first time.

I can finally talk to people about things! I don't have to avoid spoilers! THIS IS A BIG DEAL TO ME!

So I have to ask:

When did all of you start reading Homestuck? How long did it take you to catch up the first time?

Well, Karkat just died, so you came back at a crazy time.

I think I started a bit after the Alpha kids were introduced – at least, that's when I caught up – so it's been about a year and a half.

Limited catchup (gotta use a borrowed ip to get Internet of now, so no flash animations… One time resurrection ? Needless to say I want Nepeta to get one… After everything is done.

There are two constants in Homestuck:

  1. Gamzee is alive and unkillable
  2. Nepeta is Dead

unlikely.

Addendum to Constant II:

Nepeta and Equius are dead.

To answer this question: I introduced myself to Homestuck towards the end of the point where Doctor Scratch (the white cue-ball guy) was narrating the story in Hussies place. So precisely before INSERT DISK 2.

I don't know what panel we were up to when I began reading but I assume it was one of the ones where Hussie is attacking Doc Scratch. I know this because well before I started reading; the KYM Pantskat entry had this image in it:

That image had been there for a while and Hussies assault on Doc Scratch comes after Doc Scratch is done narrating that image

I started reading the comic from the beginning at that time and, by the time I was done, we were up to exactly this panel

We could do the math to figure out how long it took me to read it by looking at the time difference between the aforementioned scenes but I'll just assume it was roughly one or two weeks

I started reading it around february 2012, and caught up exactly in the beginning of Act 6 Act 3 (Myststuck) (4/17 looking at the log). From there I was happy to read on in a serial way, and I installed a little app that notifies me whenever a new page is up.

I'm having trouble adjusting to "page-a-day" mode. I feel like I know less of what's going on, less in the "flow".

Of course, that's clearly better than "not reading Homestuck".

@Serious

Yea that happens. The plotline is intentionally designed to be complex and hard to follow. So if you speed through it, you'll probably end up confused. Sometimes you will even have to backtrack a little to stay informed.

I read this comic because trying to understand it gives me a challenge

That said, it's been a while since we had some discussion. Is there nothing to talk about?

The webcomic currently updates a bit slowly, and in general I'm not too much of a fan of the constant glitchy stuff. Feels more like filler than actual progression.

But yeah, the Alpha and Beta kids meeting is getting closer by the panel, what do you all expect on how it will go?

Yeah, I feel like the breaks and general slowness of the updates have been giving Homestuck a bad feel, recently. Hopefully it'll get back into a constant updating rhythm again soon.

@RM
Based on John's recent conversation with himself, he'll hopefully see and help out Roxy soon, so I expect that to come before any other alpha/beta encounters.

EDIT: Jesus christ this is my first post in this thread I just realized.

He's just lucky he's so hot.

Old question but I'll answer it anyway. If my memory serves me right: John got that ring from ghost Tavros who was going to use it to propose to ghost Vriska…I think…in a particular dream that John had the last time he fell asleep (and it would have been towards the beginning of that dream). That was ages ago, I can hardly remember.

As for where Tavros found it…no clue. Did he fight it off Hussie who was going to propose also? Shit, I can't be bothered going all the way back to the panel that confirms that.

Anyway I came here to point out: HOW THE HELL DID GAMZEE GET THERE? Was he stowed away in that the entire time? He just appears anywhere doesn't he?

Also he's the one that stole the ring.

Welp… Looks like Aranea has decided to go off the rails.

"the only thing thats left to really do its watch that ass whole fall."

(I completely forgot this Thread still exists! It moves way too slowly for my tastes!

Anyways, excuse me while I return to my Crossover fanart… I'll leave the tab open from now on just in case.)

So

was anyone expecting THAT character?

If you say yes you’re lying

Vexarian on Tumblr did.

As for me, she wasn't anywhere near my first guess, but I wasn't particularly surprised anyways.

…Although that could be just because my definition of "Surprise" is too narrow, considering a dull "huh, wasn't expecting that" doesn't count if I feel like it makes sense at the time but had other expectations placed ahead of it.

And since my reaction to this was "Hmm, in hindsight I was kinda thinking Aranea was kinda being a bit more evil… I guess this turn makes sense." It doesn't count as surprise.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that for me I don't call it "Surprise" for anything short of "I could never have seen that coming even if I was a Seer.

It also helps that prior to the reveal, all other suspects to recive the ring were ruled out. Nobody else had enough screen time really to deserve it besides Meenah, Tavros, Vriska, Aranea or Calliope.

In reverse order: Calliope can't get the ring because it was just stolen, John said he's not going to give Vriska the ring, Meenah wants John to keep the ring away from her, Tavros flew off too soon to even care about it… Which leaves?

Yeah… Not really anyone around really important enough to get it besides her.

You just died.

Let's go over the life-restoring options covered by your insurance.

It says here you have reached God Tier. Good, good, that means you're eligible for God Tier Automatic Revival (some restrictions apply). What's that? Your death might be justified by your evil actions? Luckily, you have other options, but considering you were thoroughly possessed, we won't rule this out just yet.

Okay, having ascended to God Tier, you no longer have a chance of dream-self oral revival, so we'll go ahead and mark that as a "no"…

Hm… we could try magic ring transplant, but the likelihood of donation is slim to none.

Probably your best bet is to find a Hero of Life who can revive you, but be aware that this procedure can only be performed once, so you'll need to avoid dying again, and I believe that means a few lifestyle changes for you.

Her death wasn't just, that's the thing. Watch the flash again. It stopped for a fraction of a second in the middle, then flashed with the Serket eye and shifted to just.

Aranea rigged it. She's built up so much luck since she's been dead that she can overturn a GT revival.

Yeah, I saw what happened; I was just talking about Hussie writing her death as just through shenanigans. Wasn't expecting that.

It's funny that it turns out the Prince can rip the soul from one's body…

…When there's already "Rogue of Heart" Nepeta out there who could have done the same thing, except much quicker and with little fuss.

As for the lightning powers?

MWAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAH!

(I'm kinda Thief of Heart-y, so yay!)
