Whats the highest level of Air bending? I was thinking it would be something like sound bending, the ability to sense and create pressure waves in the air. Something that could be incredibly deadly and destructive, or a neat parlor trick depending on how its used.

Aww man, I hope the series gets into something like this!

Marble bending!

Oh yeah, that'd be badass. I like the idea of the being able to sense movements similar to how earth / metalbenders can sense vibrations in the ground (whether the objects be stationary or moving).

Though something extra like being able to manipulate sound or something would make this extra cool.

Edit: Looking at those charts, I'm actually really wanting to see some people with hybrid powers. Only one I know of was Combustion Man and maybe the Swamp people from the original series.

The highest level of airbending is using air to simulate other bending types. For example, you could superheat the air until it turns into a plasma, which makes firebending.

Aren't Sandbenders a hybrid of Earth and Air? And Iroh mentioned how his anti-lightning technique involved borrowing ideas from Waterbenders.

I think there isn't yet a highest form of airbending, because Air nomads are peacefull and don't need to come up with more powerfull forms of airbending to defend themselves or attack people.

Or this:

Ohmygodyes!

Why hasn't this happened already?

Shouldn't it be steam instead of snow?

Because even if I do, I won't. This has been very fun to watch.

Air nomads were renowned for their combat skills. The fact that monk Gyatso left piles of dead fire benders around him before he was overtaken, during Sozan's comet, is a testament to the sheer martial skill of the air nomads. The reason they were so strong was because they practiced bending they're entire lives as a form of both spiritual and physical training to hone the body, mind, and spirit through perfecting the art of bending- Just like the real life Shaolin monks who they are based after practice kung fu.

With that mind set, it would be inconceivable to have not discovered the highest possible level of air bending by the time Aang was born.

^Using this "ultimate technique" is probably how Gyatso was able to go that to a bunch of fire benders pumped up on Sozan's comet.

One theory is that the highest level of airbending is the ability to create vacuums to suffocate people. This would also explain how Gyatso was able to defeat all those powered-up firebenders, because the power-up would be useless if there was no oxygen to fuel fire.

I would not be surprised if the ultimate Airbending power was making a vacuum. Although I don't know if this could be portrayed in a kid friendly enough way for Nick to give it the green light. I mean, showing this would most likely mean people suffocating on screen.

Not much worse than tendons being torn and joints being pulled in the wrong direction by using bloodbending.

Yes but that doesn't actually lead to on screen death, which is much worse in Nick's opinion I bet.

Their actually were a few times Aang used vacuum power, like when he pulled the professeor in the library to himself, before Wan Shi Tong got him.

*There
But that's different from crushing someone with it. Most likely, an Air Nomad would be able to use this skill after years of mastering their art, but in almost all situations would not actually use it to fight someone with. One of those exceptions would be Monk Gyatso during Sozin's Comet. An Airbender has aces up their stylish sleeves, but will just fold in most cases, anyways, because they aren't fighters. The opposite being Firebenders who are somewhat warmongering and use their strongest attacks to kill flies.

I woudn't call that a vacuum, because I think it was more along the lines of bending the air behind him to push.

So guys, I tried to introduce my little brother to the Last Airbender series. I showed him the first episode of ATLA and he seemed to like it but didn't look too enthused.

He phones me up the next day "Dude, I'm on Book 3 of the Last Airbender! This show is awesome!"

"You watched all of the Last Airbender in one day?"

"Hell yeah! Toph is awesome, is she in Legend of Korra?"

Indeed. We have completely proved both the Korra Conjecture and found Sokka's Last Theorem. But still, alas, the Fire Lady Paradox remains unsolved.
