Attack on Titan General

Pretty horrifying ending, to say the least. My boyfriend theorizes that Eren's just gonna hang out in the titan's mouth until it gets outside the wall and then Eren will somehow go into badass mode and escape. How he's going to accomplish this with a missing arm and leg I don't know.

Say… He could become the new Edward Elric!

Really, every bit of knowledge of anime storytelling and just basic storytelling in general tells me that Eren will survive, but at the same time this seems like the kind of show that doesn't seem to give a shit about who it kills off (similar to The Walking Dead). Hell, Eren may even be a case of decoy protagonist. Wait a minute, I just noticed something from the tvtropes page

What happens next is the guy we perceive of as The Lancer, Side Kick, or even a fringe loner takes center stage as the real protagonist (maybe even Hero). Usually they reveal a much greater level of personal integrity and strength of will than previously thought, despite their Dark and Troubled Past.

So… If my theory is right, Mikasa Armin could become the new main character? Ha! Take that, Dac!

Well, I haven't seen episode 6 yet, but it seems to be a flashback episode. So I guess we may not know about the fate of our poor little protagonist for another couple of days.

Man, this show's so fucking heavy. I love it, but at the same time after finishing episode 5 I feel like I need to watch a few hours of pony to feel like there is a reason to live again.

Say, let's use this new page to celebrate awesome fanart, shall we?

Oh anime fandom, never change.

@crimson locks
I won't say anything other than this, Armin won't become the main protagonist. I don't want to ruin anything, so I'll leave it at that. Armin is too beta to even be considered at the same level as the alpha couple, Mikeren.

To be honest, someone almost convinced me that that gif was from a show about a shemale, and he was crying because her dick tasted so good.

You talk like I was actually being serious. No, I was just letting my headcanon go wild because dammit it's fun sometimes.

Either way, I won't be able to see episode 6 till sometime next week, so if everyone could keep up the awesomeness of putting things in spoiler tags it would be much appreciated.

Oh Dac… That is just so sad…

Why don't they build higher walls?
Why don't they dig pits behind the walls?
Why don't they live underground?
Why is Ymir so gay?

1. Reasons that are spoilers.
2. Don't really know why they'd do that, there's no really point in tunneling outside the walls and doing so would be incredibly dangerous.
3. Dangerous and they wouldn't be able to grow food.
4. Lesbeans.

I was thinking they could pit-trap those titans and strike their napes more easily with them being in cramped environment and all.

4. Lesbeans.

Lesbeans indeed.

I think you could see that they implemented that in…episode 5, was it? Anyway, it didn't really work. Considering the largest "standard" titans are 15 meters high, the holes would have to be at least 20-25 meters deep so the titans wouldn't be able to pull themselves up, and wide enough so the titans couldn't walk across, and even if the trenches were big enough, there's still the possibility that the titans could just dig themselves out.
The whole method of killing titans within trenches would be troublesome, considering you'd have go into the cramped holes crawling with titans in order to get within striking distance, with nowhere to go but up (completely destroying the effectiveness of 3D maneuver gear). As an added difficulty, the only surfaces to dock your maneuver gear would be the dirt walls of the trench, which I doubt are very good at supporting somebody's weight.
Aside from the effectiveness of the pits, the logistics of building them would be practically impossible. Humans simply can't expend the resources to dig a 60 foot deep, 30 foot wide trench around the interior of the wall, the manpower alone would be impossible to acquire, manpower that is needed to grow food. Unless it were lined with stone, the trench would cave-in more often than not, making it improbable to maintain.

So yeah, that might be why the didn't dig a trench…Lesbeans.

Well in a world where humanity fights titans with Spider-man ziplines and swords, I thought that was worth considering. Oh well.

I'm gonna pretend you guys don't already know and let you guys know that the author made a school slice-of-life comedy spin-off series called Shingeki! Kyojin Chūgakkō.

Fuck Bambi's mom and Mufasa, saddest death scene ever (srs)

This is either the greatest or worst thing ever.

Well episode 8 is subbed

FINALLY, GOD THIS HOW HAS SLOWER PACING THAN A SNAIL RACE. So yeah Eren is a titan (And all the Manga fans take a breath of relief). I have a feeling this revelation could be a make it or break it style thing for most people. What do you guys think about this twist?

Heavy stuff this episode.

Poor Sasha, made me wanna give her a hug… or food.

It can be considered a base breaker for the audience. Still, it is a nice little twist.
Makes me want to know more about how the titans function.
Does it mean all titans have a titan pilot on there necks?
Are other members titans?

attack on potato

i fucking love sasha.

also finished episode 8, about time there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel.

Oh god yes.
Get used to it, cause there's a lot more where that comes from.

I was almost crying with Mikasa. Such a touching scene.

@Vino

Agreed. That scene was a nice subversion of the "military precision" trope and further fleshed out how much stress the characters are under. Remember, Sasha was in the top ten of her class and she had failed. How would you feel if you were one of the best at a task and at a crucial moment, you failed to do that task?

That and this scene further confirmed for me that Sasha is best shingeki.

Forget Annie and her bird-beak.

Potato Girl FTW.

Welcome to anime, Dac. You are never safe.

At Anime Boston I got a really frikin sweet AoT print at the artist's alley (which I may post a picture of later), and I also decided I'll do a Sasha Braus cosplay for next year. Will make sure to get pics.

Just got through episode 8. Holy crap, these feels.

I'm still kinda undecided about the ability of people to control titans like that…I mean, I was relieved to see some good happen in this show, but I kinda liked how hopeless it all seemed. It made the whole show feel very desperate, and I think that helped me to feel for the characters. That being said, it will be a good thing to see humanity get a much needed boost. It is nice to see Eren back. I didn't think they'd kill him off for real. Also I noticed that the shape of the titan was a lot different than the one that actually swallowed him, leading me to believe that there's some sort of biological and nervous connection going on between Titan and pilot that caused the change of appearance. Same reason for the regrown limbs.

Also, guys….I think…I think I might have a waifu…

…what should I do?

Become a potato, only then will your love be reciprocated.
Also: butts.

So one of my friends introduced me to this series a while back after he saw it in his college's anime club. mfw after every episode:

Speaking of episodes, the newest one…

I thought Eren was done for good. Considering the end credits focus on Mikasa and the general tone of the series is…not happy, I didn't put it past the story to kill off Eren and make Mikasa the real protagonist. I'm fine with this turn of events though: it seems kinda deus ex machina-y, but at the same time it's been established that humanity knows pretty much jack shit about the Titans. Also, Titans beating the shit out of other Titans. HOLY FUCK, YES.

On a related note, shortly after episode 7 aired, previously mentioned friend and I theorized that Titans somehow turn those that they eat into more Titans, simply because adding a hint of "zombie apocalypse" to the story's mix would make things even more bleak (as well as explaining stuff such as why they eat humans when they don't need to and how they reproduce without apparent reproductive organs). that feel when possibly calling it right

Only logical thing to do…
